Book Review | My Hare Line

About the book series (My Hare Line- Book 1):

When you were a child, did you have a pet? My Hare Line author, Patsy M. Henry, was from a hard working farm family, and there was no time or money for pets. The thought of having one never entered her mind. At the age of fifty-seven, her husband surprised her with a rabbit for Easter. Follow along as the author takes you on an emotional ride as she learns how to take care of Bunny Rabbit. She adds Jack and Flopsey to the family and the action picks up. Emotions run high as two dogs attack the rabbits. Our author develops a love and strong bond unlike any she had known before. My Hare Line tells the story of their sometimes-bumpy ride.

My Review:

My children love animals so they were very eager to read the three books in the My Hare Line book series. They are quite visually oriented so the addition of real-life rabbit photos on every other page was very appealing in bringing the author’s stories to life. My children were fascinated by the adorable photos of tiny baby rabbits in My Hare Line and really enjoyed the charming story of the author and her pet rabbits. We laughed when the bunnies began to multiply and shed a few tears when the rabbits were attacked. I was a bit afraid that this part about rabbits being killed by two dogs would be particularly upsetting to them but instead my children were inquisitive and asked, “Where do rabbits go when they die….I bet they are happy in bunny heaven?” My two younger children also loved the fun illustrated bunnies on the pages and made a game out of seeing who could spot it first.

My Hare Line Meets the Brown Rabbit is a sweet story of what happens when humans are encroaching on wildlife habitat. It follows the story of Brownie, a young rabbit who must find a safe, new home when a shopping mall is built on her land. I love the message in this story and thought that the author, Patsy M. Henry successfully wrote a tale that children could understand and relate to. It opened up a discussion about how they could do their part to help rabbits and all animals (like our beloved Florida gopher turtle) that are facing the loss of their habitat.

My Hare Line and the Dead Pine Tree is the story of Rascal bunny who becomes afraid that a tree in the rabbit pen is a danger to the other rabbits so he tries to enlist the help of the humans but when he is unable to communicate his concerns he must take matters into his own hands. Will he be able to save his friends in time? This story is so imaginative and my children were literally sitting on the edges of their seats to see how it turns out.

My children and I thoroughly enjoyed reading the My Hare Line book series together and we look forward to the 4th book title in the series that is coming soon, My Hare Line and the Hat. You can even download the accompanying audio book for free by following the simple instructions in the back of each book.

You are invited to visit the My Hare Line website to learn more about the author and her beloved bunnies. All books in the series are also available for purchase too!
