The Thinking Girl’s Treasury of Real Princesses Review

With my daughter (and sons) inundated with cartoon princesses leading “magical” lives, I was delighted to discover The Thinking Girl’s Treasury of Real Princesses which helps teach children about real-life heroines who embody the power, spirit and courage of being a real princess. My children and I traveled back in time around the world from Egypt, Iran and Mongolia to Spain, India and ancient Greece. Each hardcover book in this collection includes fascinating historical descriptions of life in the time period and the illustrations by Albert Nguyen bring the princesses and their world to life.

We loved learning about how Artemisia bravely commanded her own ship during the Greco-Persian Wars and how Isabella of Castile brought riches and power to Spain in the 1400’s. What I value most from The Thinking Girl’s Treasury of Real Princesses is that it empowers and inspires young girls to embrace their own talents, abilities and attributes instead of “waiting for a prince to rescue them.” It also teaches my sons that girls are equally inspiring and powerful. This children’s historical book series is recommended for children ages 9-13 but we read aloud each of these titles together and my five and six year old daughter and son were captivated by these stories. I highly recommend this wonderful book collection for children of all ages to enjoy!
