Ruby’s School Walk Review
My family has enjoyed a lot of Barefoot Books titles over the years but Ruby’s School Walk is by far my children’s favorite story! This wonderful hardcover children’s book is written by Kathryn White and illustrated by Miriam Latimer. In the Barefoot Books tradition of “celebrating art & story” this charming, fun story explores the world inside of an imaginative little girl on her way to school. I love how Ruby is able to conquer her fears and be brave. My children sat captivated by Ruby’s journey and my four year old daughter said, “I think Ruby is just afraid to go to school…..but I bet she will be brave.” This statement was particularly poignant for me because Hannah has been reluctant to separate from me in the past and was able to see herself in Ruby’s character. The illustrations are colorful, engaging and capture a wonderful and whimsical world of fantasy. My children have requested that I read this book at least once if not twice per day since we received it. This would be a perfect gift idea for a young child who is going to start school for the first time or is apprehensive about the new school year. Ruby’s School Walk is an enjoyable way to try and ease their fears with a wild tale.
You can purchase Ruby’s School Walk by visiting the Barefoot Books Website. The Hardcover Edition is only $11.99.
