Discovery Girls Magazine Review
As the mom of a “young lady” I was excited to learn about a national magazine specifically for girls ages 8-13. I was drawn to Discovery Girl’s mission aiming to “inspire and encourage girls to be more confident and resilient and help them deal with those difficult situations that all girls run into growing up.” What I like most is that Discovery Girls magazine does not focus on celebrities but features real girls. In fact, Discovery Girls magazine does not ever have celebrities on the cover, instead featuring 12 girls to represent their home state!
While stylish, I also appreciate that the girls are all appropriately dressed and do not have a lot of makeup. The wholesome content is engaging and practical and I love that there is a lot of feedback from the girls themselves which in my opinion helps girls to better relate to others just like them that are facing similar situations. There is an advice column called “Ask Ali”, a fun “Embarrassing Moment” section and interesting articles.
I would not hesitate to purchase a subscription to Discovery Girls Magazine when my daughter turns 8 years old. I remember learning a lot of information both good and bad from magazines as a young girl and prefer that my daughter have access to the wholesome content of Discovery Magazine.

The award winning Fab Girls book series by Discovery Girls would make great summer reading for middle school girls. This four book series features “Dallas” and “Carmen” who are twins but are complete opposites. Fab Girls tackles issues to help guide middle school girls dealing with these formative yet often times difficult years. This set includes “Friendship Hardship”, “Sticky Situations”, “Getting Your Questions Answered” and “Getting through Tough Times.” Reading these books, I found myself transported back to my middle school years (yikes, that was a long time ago) and I feel like the advice is relevant and timeless. For more information about the Fab Girls or to purchase any of these titles (you can also save by buying all four as a set) you can visit the Discovery Girls website.
