Plaid Store Review

I am always envious of people who are crafty or artistic because it is a passion of mine but I admit that I am not the most talented. My children, however, just love to create and design and will often work an hour or more on an art or craft project. With summer approaching, I have been looking for fun ideas to promote their creativity through self expression with various projects. While looking for different ideas, I discovered two fantastic blogs, Mod Podge Rocks! and Paint Me Plaid which not only inspired me with ideas for my little ones but even gave me the courage to try a few projects myself.

Mod Podge Rocks! is a fabulous blog hosted by Amy Anderson, who loves to decoupage and features tons of great projects, ideas and helpful hints. What the heck is decoupage you might be wondering? It is the very hot crafting trend that lets you decorate virtually anything using paper and glue. I recommend using decoupage accessories by Mod Podge®. The possibilities are endless and this is such a fun project for all ages. I mentioned that we were going to try our hand at decoupage and my neighbor got really excited and said that she and her ten year old daughter have enjoyed many different fun projects together over the past year.

The secret is the Mod Podge® which is an all- in-one glue, sealer and finish. There is a variety of finishes available so you can select the perfect Mod Podge® for your project.

There are lots of different decoupage tools and accessories and I really like the Dimensional Magic™ which creates dimensional special effects like faux mosaic, quilt and other textures and it works well with Mod Podge®, acrylic paint, dyes and other pigments. At first I wasn’t quite sure where to start with everything but I got tons of great ideas from Mod Podge Rocks! To be honest, my first projects didn’t turn out very well but I had so much fun and I just got better and better until I felt confident that I can actually learn to decoupage.

Paint Me Plaid is sponsored by Plaid Enterprises and has been making paint for 35 years. This blog features everything you could ever want to know about painting and has a wonderful section “Learn How to Paint” which is an excellent resource. What I love most about painting is that it is such a freeing source of creative expression and it is fun, relaxing and something that everyone can enjoy doing. I think painting just might be my children’s favorite arts & craft projects and I love to see their creations. I was really impressed with the quality of the painting supplies at Plaid Enterprises, especially the Plaid® Brush Sets which were excellent for painting with watercolors (our favorite) and acrylics or oil too.

For our paint projects we used the Apple Barrel® Acrylic Craft Paint Value Packs in Bold Brights and Primary Colors. The colors were so vivid, applied effortlessly and are easy to work with. I really appreciate the quality and value of these two sets which makes it affordable to buy art supplies for my kids. My six year old son and his father built a treasure box bank together and then he wanted to decorate it using Plaid 4” Letter Stencils and smaller Plaid Decorative Stencils. I was really surprised with his creativity and he was very proud of the outcome of his very first creation though he decided to keep it simple and paint it red with yellow accents. I think it came out so nice and now we have a homemade treasure that we will cherish forever.

Are you interested in trying your hand at decoupage or painting? It would be such a great summer project for yourself or the kids. You are invited to visit Amy at Mod Podge Rocks! and all of the very talented contributors at Paint Me Plaid to get inspiration to create your own designs.
