Jewelry artist Nancy Giere finds inspiration for her wearable pieces of art everywhere that she looks, whether it’s at an exotic locale or just sitting in her backyard. Nancy creates vibrant abstract designs that sparkle and shine in the light, adding character to any outfit you might pair it with.
Nancy’s wonderful pieces are made of dichroic glass (in Greek, this means “two colors”) and is now the second piece of dichroic glass jewelry that I own. On her website, she explains how the development of dichroic glass began as a NASA experiment to make glass face shields to product the astronauts’ faces from different gamuts of harmful light.
The process of creating dichroic glass pieces appears very time consuming and even potentially dangerous since the creator works with hot glass, metals, and fire to design a uniquely special piece of wearable art.
Nancy sent me a pendant from her Sassy Slides Collection. It has a 3D look to it, featuring various shades of sparkly blues, pinks, greens, and purples depending on the angle and lighting. Just looking at the pendant makes me feel as if there is a breathing world contained within this thick piece of glass. The pendant hangs on a black satin cord that is 18”. There is a silver clasp and 2” extender so the proud wearer can determine the right length for her. I love how the pendant can dramatically change the look of an outfit. In addition to pendants, Nancy also offers earrings, bracelets, rings, and even cuff links. Be sure to check out her Gifts Collection, which contains beaded purses, framed pieces of dichroic glass, and more.
Nancy Griere’s dichroic glass jewelry is featured in many galleries across the United States. To find out if there is a gallery in your area that carries pieces from her various collections, click here.
