Lemonade Mouth DVD Review
Title: Lemonade Mouth
Release Date: May 24, 2011
About the Movie:
This spirited, music-driven movie introduces an unlikely ensemble of five students- Olivia, Wren, Stella, Mohini and Charlie- who, after meeting in detention gradually realize their shared musical connection and believe that it’s time for the Mesa High to stand up and be heard on things big and small (ranging from the school principal’s exclusive support of the athletic program to the removal of the popular organic lemonade from the cafeteria). Ultimately as they open up to eachother and form friendships, they start a band– Lemonade Mouth– that soon resonates with students sidelined by the high school elite. However, not everyone in the school is ready to cheer them on, especially since the popular rock group Mudslide Crush is determined to maintain their headline status and win the coveted Rising Star music competition.
This was such a fun movie to watch. The music was amazing and I couldn’t get over how talented these kids are! Especially the singer, Olivia. She has the voice of an angel. It reminded me a little of the show, Glee, where students who are a little different from their peers come together and create something beautiful.
One of my favourite parts takes place towards the beginning of the movie when the five students wind up together in detention in the grungy school basement. Their teacher tells them to clean up and then leaves the room. The students get started and begin a melody of sorts while they are working and it turns into a full music performance! That’s when they knew that they had something magical together.
I also liked the creepy and annoying high school principal who is all about the athletic program and pleasing the new school sponsor, Turbo Blast. He is just so off the wall that it was funny to watch the scenes where he is disciplining the kids. The look of horror on his face was priceless when Stella stood up and proclaimed that she would be heard during the school assembly. And what was with that little motorized contraption he rode around school on and that helmet???
I’m actually considering buying the soundtrack of Lemonade Mouth because the songs were really good! I found myself tapping my feet and attempting to sing along. This is a great film for the whole family to watch and enjoy together.
