Graduation Memories

I graduated high school in 1997 and it was one of the happiest times of my life. I was ready to take on the world! I was 19 years old and graduating from OAC (Grade 13 in Ontario) and had been accepted into a prestigious Canadian university in the Fall. My entire family came to watch me graduate- my parents, sisters, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and my new boyfriend, Kris (who later on I ended marrying).

Here’s a pic of me and my best buds (I’m the pale one sitting down in the white shirt)…

I worked really hard in high school and my grades were amazing. I was never good at sports so I focused my attention on studying and achieving academically. I graduated with a 96% average and that was something that made my parents very proud of me. They thought I could have become anything I wanted!

At my graduation, I remember walking on the stage when they called my name and praying that they would pronounce it right. They did thankfully! I found out that night that I would be receiving some awards and scholarships! They presented me with the English Award, French Award and German Award for achieving the highest marks in each respective course. I was beaming from ear to ear because my hard work had finally paid off and was recognized.

At the end of the ceremony, my family came up to congratulate me and take pictures. I still look back on that night and smile. It’s one memory I will always cherish because I had my whole family there and they were so proud of me.
