Book Review | Naked Fitness
Author: Andrea Metcalf
Naked Fitness: The Proven 28 Day Lifestyle Program for a Slimmer, Fitter, Pain Free Body by renowned fitness and nutrition expert Andrea Metcalf is designed to “tailor make a specific plan for your body type.” Though the title automatically caught my husband’s attention, I assure you there is no exercise in the buff much to his dismay. Instead the goal of Naked Fitness is to be a lifestyle program that helps you strip away all of the bad habits, negative thinking, emotional eating and bad habits that keep your body from being in the best shape.
There is a basic fit test and step by step exercise routines with black and white photos to guide you. It also stresses the importance of walking as a form of physical fitness which I find very basic but effective (and free). It includes affirmations and mantras including “Seven Secrets to Loving Your Body, Naked or Otherwise” which were interesting. I found the success stories recounted in the book to be inspiring.
My favorite section of the book was the nutrition section which includes healthy whole foods such as walnuts, eggs, fiber, beneficial fats etc. Since I am currently losing those post pregnancy pounds I found it very helpful to have read the section that lists foods to keep in the pantry, snack suggestions and ideas for healthy eating choices in restaurants.
I also appreciated the extensive appendix section, particularly the recommended tests for your particular age group. Naked Fitness didn’t really provide any new information to me regarding exercises or nutrition but I do appreciate that it is a very focused and comprehensive life plan. I found it to be an enjoyable read and a great starting point if you are looking to make changes.
You can learn more about the book or find purchasing information at the Naked Fitness website.
