Book Review | Church Awakening
Author: Chuck Swindoll
There are two big things I loved about this book. The author and the content. I just love Chuck Swindoll and have read many of his books. As a person who has been a Churchgoer all my life and a person who has been in leadership roles in the Church I was so in love with the content. The title says it all really. It’s time for the Church to stop sleeping and to “wake up.”
The book focuses on what the Bible says a Church should look like and how it should function. What’s the purpose of Church? It’s time to focus on what’s important and to do what we are called to do. The author talks about current issues many Churches are facing… the struggles, challenges and solutions and how the Church needs to become contagious again. A place where a hurting world can come in and find comfort, help and find the most important thing~ God himself.
Dr. Swindoll talks about worship and how we need to stop going through the motions and really live a life that honors God and ministers to those around us. It seems some Churches have become places of entertainment rather than places of worship. The author wants the Church to return to it’s fundamental roots. Biblically based messages which offer real teaching to people and helps the congregation really hunger and thirst for God.
I honestly believe that this is an important book that needs to be read and studied by both pastors and Church goers. It’s a book that I think can unify Churches and strengthen them to be what they should be in the community and in the world. easy and interesting to read, I found this book thoroughly enjoyable and read it practically cover to cover in one sitting. I really loved it.
