Blog Spotlight | What Mama Wants
Today I would like to welcome Robyn from What Mama Wants. I had a chance to learn more about her blog and here’s what she had to say…
Please tell me about yourself.
I am a stay at home mama of five beautiful and wonderful children ages 13, 11, 7, 5, and 2! I am married to a wonderful man who works hard to support us and loves being a daddy! I love to sew and cook and have found a wonderful creative outlet through blogging. I love cloth diapering, baby-wearing, crafts, trying to live a green lifestyle and just being with my kids.
Please tell me about your blog.
My blog is all about family life and parenting, with a mix of recipes and crafts. I love to review family friendly products and host giveaways too!
How long have you been blogging?
I started blogging in August 2010, and absolutely love it!
How did you get started?
I started as an outlet for talking about natural parenting and cloth diapering. I rapidly morphed into a review blog! I love my readers and feel like they are close friends!
What kinds of products do you feature on your blog?
I have featured everything from cloth diapers to beef jerky! Anything that interests me or my family goes! I love anything for babies and children, and love to feature WAHM’s!
What was your favourite giveaway?
So far, my favorite giveaway has been my Fantastic Fluff prize package for A Blogtastic Extravaganza. It was a variety of cloth diapers and accessories from various companies worth almost $200. I really wished that I could have entered to win it myself!
Who does your blog appeal to?
My blog appeals to mainly mothers. It is a broad spectrum of age groups and lifestyles. There is truly something for everyone!
What direction do you see your blog going in the future?
I hope to steadily grow my readership. I plan on participating in many blogging events this coming year and offer many great giveaways too. I hope to get back to basics a bit more with some guest blog posts and plan to continually learn new things from seasoned bloggers I have met recently.
What is the biggest challenge you have faced so far with your blog?
My biggest challenge so far has been growing my readership to qualify for more fun and sought after sponsors.
What do you love about blogging?
I love connecting with other parents. I love sharing my experiences and history, and learning more about theirs. I really enjoy bringing attention to products that I know other parents can use and appreciate. I love the expression of ideas and the ability to connect with people I ordinarily wouldn’t have the opportunity to meet in my day to day life.
Do you have a blogging pet peeve?
I have several blogging pet peeves! I myself love to enter giveaways. I hate captcha/word verification. It absolutely irritates me to see misspelled words in blog posts. I love my spell-checker!
Do you have any advice for the readers entering your giveaway? Newbie review bloggers?
My advice to those entering giveaways on my blog is to take advantage of the daily entries for things like tweeting and voting. Also, check in frequently on Facebook for extra entry opportunities! I love to randomly give away entries in comment games! Please make sure to include your email address in each entry, and follow the rules. I hate to disqualify entries! I really want you to win!
For newbie review bloggers, I suggest that you put together a good media kit and form letter. Send out hundreds of emails pitching your blog weekly. Don’t get discouraged by rejection emails or those that don’t bother to respond. Make sure you are heavily promoting yourself through Twitter, Facebook and other social media outlets. I strongly suggest you join blogging communities like Blog Frog and get registered with voting communities like Picket Fence Blogs and Top Mommy and Baby Blogs. Get yourself out there!
Tell me some of your favourite blogs that you read.
Oh wow! I read so many great blogs! I love Cloth Diaper Addiction, Happenings of the Harper Household, The Misadventures of a Family of 8, My Silly Monkeys, Mama B, Baby Making Machine, Single Dad Laughing, The Baby Birthing Mama, Spoons, Spades and Stitches, and Sippy Cups & Cloth Bums. I think I have over 300 blogs on my reading list right now!
