Blog Spotlight | MomVantage
Today I would like to welcome Jessie from MomVantage. I had a chance to learn more about her blog and here’s what she had to say…
Please tell me about yourself.
I am a 25 year old stay at home mom with two children – a 4 year old daughter and a 14 month old son. I currently attend college part time and I am working towards completing a degree in History. I love to read, cook, and write, and family is the most important thing to me.
Please tell me about your blog.
My blog is a family friendly site that features product reviews and giveaways, craft projects for young children, kid-approved recipes and personal stories.
How long have you been blogging?
I have been blogging since August 2010
How did you get started?
I was looking for a new outlet/hobby, as my son was getting older and I was feeling a little stressed being home with two small children. I originally started my blog strictly about my family, and then I became interested in expanding my focus. I began to incorporate crafts and recipes, and eventually product reviews. (I started a second blog for reviews, but maintaining two became too much, and I decided to combine them).
What kinds of products do you feature on your blog?
I love to feature small businesses, and I try to make them my focus. All the products that I feature are for moms and/or young children. There are so many items available for babies, toddlers and preschoolers, that I want to find the best there is and share that with my readers. I also like to find fun and unique items for moms – especially ones that will pamper us or make our lives easier!
What was your favourite giveaway?
My favorite giveaway is for Bambo-Nature diapers. I LOVE these diapers, and I will use them until my son is potty trained. I love that they are good for him, gentle on his skin, and also eco-friendly. I also really loved my Peacock Pottery Giveaway – the pieces are beautiful, and it was my first experience with handmade Polish pottery. I am now a life-long fan, and I am continue to grow my pottery stash.
Who does your blog appeal to?
My blog appeals to moms, grandmothers, and anyone taking care of little kids.
What direction do you see your blog going in the future?
I hope that my blog grows and continues to provide my readers with fun and interesting products and information. I would love to feature some guest bloggers in the near future! I am going to be doing some features about handmade items, and wahms that I am very excited about.
What is the biggest challenge you have faced so far with your blog?
My biggest challenge is the personal writing. I sometimes wonder how much is too much, or if it is something that I would want to read about. I also struggle with some of my pieces, as they are very personal and emotional for me to write.
What do you love about blogging?
I love connecting with people that I would not otherwise have the opportunity to meet. I also like that it is a huge stress reliever to be able to sit down and just write at the end of the day. It is a fantastic outlet for me.
Do you have a blogging pet peeve?
My biggest blogging pet peeve is when I want to leave a comment and there is the captcha on the form. This is especially frustrating when entering a giveaway, or when I only have time to leave a quick comment.
Do you have any advice for newbie review bloggers?
My best advice for newbie bloggers in general is just to keep writing. This was advice given to me when I first started and it is so true – just keep writing. If you are honest and real, people will read what you write and they will keep coming back.
Tell me some of your favourite blogs that you read.
I frequently read Mommy Perks, The Meanest Mom, Simply Stacie, and Maple Leaf Mommy.
