Oh boy! This next shop makes me just want to INDULGE my sweet tooth. Kaitlin & Kylie’s shop is full of mouthwatering treats! Bring on the Chocolate Butterscotch Cups or the Double Dipped Caramel Squares…heck bring me everything because it all looks so yummy!
Kaitlin & Kylie’s has a good selection of chocolates that will be perfect for Valentine’s day. I chatted with Christina, owner of Kaitlin & Kylie’s and learned more about her delicious shop. Enjoy!
What kinds of products do you offer?
Assorted artisan chocolates, nut clusters, nut butter cups, chocolate dipped fruit, chocolate caramels, gourmet popcorn, chocolate pretzels, children’s chocolates, sampler boxes, & gift towers
Describe your typical customer?
Usually female, of course. Even the gift givers so far have been women. I’m hoping I get more male customers for Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day. You’d think they’d all know by now that no matter what we say we want, chocolate is always implied!
How long have you been in business?
I sold chocolates online several years ago, and it went really well, so that is why I’m doing it again now. Besides, I love doing it. I just opened Kaitlin &Kylie’s on Etsy in November 2010. I have been making handmade gourmet chocolates for about ten years now.
What sets your business apart from others in your niche?
There are a lot of chocolate shops online now that make their items fresh to order, and ship them just as fast as I do, but my prices are incredibly reasonable. I’m a chocoholic myself, and I just don’t think one little box should cost $20. Most of my items are around $15.00, some even under $10.00. Plus each chocolate is made in a mini-cupcake size paper cup! That’s a huge piece of candy. And this sounds corny, but I put a lot of heart into what I do. I am a gift giver at heart, so every time I pack up a box of chocolates and tie a pretty bow on it, I get all excited and wish I could see the look on the customer’s face when they open it.
What is your most popular product?
It’s funny, the same exact item that was my bestseller last time I sold them…the Chocolate Drizzled Pretzels. It’s because I don’t coat them, I just drizzle them. It adds to the layers of flavor…the fact that the crunchiness and saltiness of the pretzels aren’t overpowered by too much chocolate.
What inspires you?
I’m usually inspired not by the chocolate itself, but by what I can do with the chocolate. I see other items at the market, and am constantly thinking, “I could dip that in chocolate! Then I could coat it with toffee bits….oooh, then it would be even better with some chopped nuts!” I also love entertaining & gift giving, so I think in terms of what I would like to give as a gift, or what I would love to use as a party favor. It’s a constant struggle for me to not waste too much effort creating new items-to just stop creating and promote what I’ve already listed for sale.
Where do you see your business heading in the future?
Provided I can afford it, I would love to add a line of organic items in 100% eco-friendly packaging. I’d like to do more specialized orders like corporate gifts and party favors. And I want to add on baked goods like cookies, biscottie, and mini cakes. If my absolute biggest dream came true, I’d be able to open an actual shop or cafe that I could pass on to my daughters, Kaitlin & Kylie. Hey, they wouldn’t even have to change the name!
What countries do you ship to?
For now just the continental U.S. I hope to offer international shipping in the future.
