Sunshine to Starshine

Today I would like to welcome Caitlin from Sunshine to Starshine. I had a chance to learn more about her blog and here’s what she had to say…

Please tell me about yourself.

My name is Caitlin, more commonly known in the blogging community as Mama Sunshine. I am a young mom, married for almost 2 1/2 years, with a one year old little girl. I believe that parenting should be sort of in the moment, we take life as it comes to us. My daughter is the most precious thing in my life. My husband works long and hard so that I do not HAVE to work, but I choose to substitute as a teacher’s assistant here and there. My in-laws live with us because my husband doesn’t know how to say No (this includes my mother in law and two brother in laws) which always makes life for us a little more seasoned.

Please tell me about your blog.

The blog is titled “Sunshine to Starshine: a young mom’s blog about the universe of mommyhood” I named it this because my grandmother always called me Sunshine lady, and when my daughter was born, she started calling her Starshine. The passion behind my blog is to do tutorials, reviews and giveaways that will spark interest in healthy and easy lifestyles. I strongly believe that parenting and life can catch you so fast sometimes that you forget to breathe and enjoy it. I would like to share a little of my world with others in hopes of reaching people.

How long have you been blogging?

As a young teenager I “blogged” about my life woes. I took a break for most of high school and my first couple years in the real world, then I began this new blog just a month or so ago.

How did you get started?

Sunshine to Starshine got started primarily because I want to help people find good deals and giveaways. While this is not solely a review and giveaway blog, that is the primary purpose of it. I took what I learned from various other bloggers and combined it to make my own, easy to navigate blog.

What kinds of products do you feature on your blog?

Almost anything. Things that promote making life simpler, learning and creativity, healthy choices, family time, self esteem and uniqueness, and marriage or friendship strengtheners. There is a full list of examples of things I would review available on my Media/PR Kit page.

What was your favorite giveaway?

Since I am just starting out, I would have to say that the giveaway I am holding when I reach 600 followers is fantastic. I am so excited, there is a lot more work to do, but it is going to be worth it. I am having an international free professional photo shoot giveaway. As of right now we have 9 photographers, and many more to come, to offer a fantastic free session and edited photo CD! One photographer instead of offering it just stateside says that he will travel anywhere you want if you just pay for the gas(or airfare).

Who does your blog appeal to?

Young people, parents, busy people, anyone really! I try to give it a little flavor so it isn’t something tedious for anyone to read. My 80 year old grandmother loves it!

What direction do you see your blog going in the future?

I hope to expand my blog to be a giveaway a day in the future. Something that I think is going to take a lot of effort, but I know that I can make it there.

What is the biggest challenge you have faced so far with your blog?

My biggest challenge is finding companies that want to provide items for reviews and giveaways because I really have had no idea where to start (except for a fellow blogger pointing me to a few that helped her when she was new). Trying to give my blog a personalized look has been my next biggest challenge. I am not sure if I like the header now, but it’s good for the time being, I am sure eventually they whole layout will get a major work through.

What do you love about blogging?

I love giving people awesome stuff for free. I love getting to know the online community I have created. I love that it gives me something to do during naptimes in between loads of laundry.

Do you have a blogging pet peeve?

I really hate how a lot of other bloggers do contests. I cannot stand writing seperate comments for each different entry. I use a form, so it’s a little more difficult on my end, but MUCH more user friendly!

Do you have any advice for the readers entering your giveaway? Newbie review bloggers?

My advice for my readers is to follow me on my blog, twitter and facebook, because sometimes there are a heads upabout giveaways in one place and not the other. I am not trying to trick you, but I want to include everyone, and some people don’t have all 3, so it gives them a little extra love. Most of my giveaways require following me on the blog anyways. For newbie review bloggers: It is a lot of work, and takes up a good chunk of time, don’t get impatient and please feel free to email me if you need help starting out.

Tell me some of your favorite blogs that you read.

Thrifty Nifty Mommy, Simply Stacie(you!), Mommy Moment, Dixie Diva Deals, and What Mama Wants. These are some of the 40 or so blogs that I follow on google friend connect and read often.
