Little One Books Review
The first time that I visited Little One Books online store over 90 minutes passed while I browsed the fantastic selection of children’s books, movies and videos. To say that I was impressed is an understatement!
Little One Books is a rare gem in that it is family operated and was started by two grandparents who were initially overwhelmed by the vast assortment of children’s books, music and videos (I can certainly relate!) and decided to create a solution with their online store that helps guide you to the right product. The selections are broken down by age groups to insure age appropriateness and every single item in stock has been personally reviewed by them. I really like the “Why We Chose” section which gives detailed information about why they have recommended a particular product and found it to be quite helpful.
In the age group for 5 year olds, I was really captivated by the book “Redwoods” by Jason Chin which is a visually stunning and educational picture and story book that introduces children to our great ancient forests. All three of my children (ages 3, 4 and 5) really enjoyed this book and have been talking about it for weeks. In fact, they proudly shared their new knowledge for the Redwood trees with their dad who was amazed at the information a young child can absorb and understand. For example, we were driving through our downtown area yesterday and my four year old commented out of the blue that the “great redwoods are taller than that skyscraper.” My children have always loved nature and I love that a book can encourage their passion and stir their imaginations. The book is a large hardcover format and the illustrations are simply beautiful.
While I was browsing the collection of DVD’s I noticed The Big Space Shuttle by Little Mammoth Media and it is part of the Big Adventure Series. We live in Florida near the Space Coast and are extremely proud of our shuttle program. I was excited to watch this live action DVD with my children and it did not disappoint. My children (and I) were glued to the screen as we watched as the astronauts blasted off on a real mission to outer space. This 50 minute DVD is packed full of interesting information to help teach your children about the space program, launch pads, Mission Control and astronaut training programs. As our shuttle program is about to retire I think it is important to share an important piece of history with my children. My daughter particularly loved the part of the DVD that showed the world’s largest radio telescope. I can’t wait to check out all the other titles in the Big Adventures Series to see if they are as good. $14.99
If you are passionate about quality children’s books and want to select only the best then I can’t recommend Little One Books highly enough. The customer service is attentive and the selection can’t be beat in my opinion. What a fantastic gift idea for a new parent (you can purchase a gift certificate), birthdays or simply if you are looking to add some fantastic new titles to a special child’s book collection. I love the flat rate shipping of $3.95 so it makes it easy to stock up and save money too!
