Do you struggle with getting your children to eat their vegetables? If so, Veggiecation is fantastic and fun new resource that originally began as a school lunch based program curriculum that is now available at home and for after-school programs.
I am the mother of three children and understand the importance of instilling healthy eating habits including consuming lots of vegetables as opposed to cookies and sugary treats. I love the concept of Veggiecation and found the materials that I reviewed educational and entertaining too.
The Veggiecation program provides parents/adults with learning materials including an activity/coloring book, recipe booklets and even a fun audio CD “Veggiecation Across the Nation”. I home educate my children so I thought this would be an excellent resource and I was right. We sort of cheated though because my kids really enjoy vegetables…..each year we grow an organic vegetable garden and the children are responsible for helping with different parts of growing their favorite fruits and vegetables.
My five year old son enjoyed the mazes and word games and my four year old daughter especially liked coloring and dot games as part of the Veggiecation activity book. I was impressed with the fun veggie related facts that were included in this book and the coloring pages were really nice too (not overly simplistic but instead had nice folksy style art to color).
The Veggiecation recipe booklet included a collection of 36 kid friendly vegetable based recipes that were appealing to both kids and adults alike. My kids really enjoyed the “Shamrock Smoothie” which included healthy kale and passed the “kid test” in my house. I especially appreciated the Roasted Butternut Squash with Cinnamon recipe because I am not a fan personally of butternut squash but my husband is and this is one recipe that I really enjoyed along with my family.
The Veggiecation Across the Nation” audio CD is catchy and was a fun way to liven up the room and reinforce a “love” for vegetables during the time when my kids were using the activity book.
Veggiecation is an excellent resource for parents or child care workers who are looking to find a fun yet educational way to promote healthy veggie eating habits to our young children.
You can visit the Veggiecation website to listen to a fun song or to purchase any of the materials discussed in this review.
