Title: Clinton St. Baking Company Cookbook: Breakfast, Brunch & Beyond from New York’s Favorite Neighborhood Restaurant

Author: DeDe Lahman and Neil Kleinberg

My Review:

Clinton St. Baking Company Cookbook: Breakfast, Brunch and Beyond by DeDe Lahman and Neil Kleinberg. I love to cook breakfast for my family and this new cookbook was very inspirational. The Clinton St. Baking Company is an exceptional brunch experience in New York where “people wait hours on weekend mornings for a chance to savor freshly baked goods, hearty omelets, sugar-cured bacon, and house-made buttermilk biscuits served tomato jam.” Are you getting hungry yet? The Clinton St. Baking Company Cookbook brings together over 100 treasured recipes from the author’s restaurant and presents it in such a way that you will feel like a chef in your own home.

I have always wanted to make “Huevos Rancheros” but wasn’t quite sure how to put all the ingredients together to make the perfect dish. Thankfully, Clinton St. Baking Company Cookbook: Breakfast, Brunch and Beyond walked me through it with their delicious recipe and my husband actually applauded my efforts. Many of the recipes include a mouth watering photograph of the finished product and I just couldn’t decide which of the wonderful recipes to try next.

My children decided to help with the decision making by requesting pancakes. There is an entire chapter devoted to these culinary delights and we selected “Neil’s Pancakes” topped with the most amazing “Maple Butter.” Using real maple syrup from Ohio and pure unsalted butter these two simple ingredients elevated pancakes to a whole new level. I love the fact that this cookbook has loads of helpful tips called “Common Mistakes.” For example, it was really helpful to know that “many cooks don’t heat the griddle enough, which is why the first pancake is usually a dud.” After over 20 years of cooking, now I get it….all of those poor pancakes that I could have saved with just heating the griddle properly.

For Sunday brunch, the “Buttermilk Fried Chicken” was so delicious that my husband questioned whether I had actually made it (I have burned my fair share of fried chicken attempts in the past). It is obvious to me why Lonely Planet has declared Clinton St. Baking Company the “#1 breakfast spot in New York.” The recipes are easy to follow, use quality ingredients and will “wow” family and friends at your next special breakfast or brunch. Crab Cakes Benedict with fresh asparagus here I come……………
