Blog Spotlight | Turning the Clock Back

Today I would like to welcome Diane from Turning the Clock Back. I had a chance to learn more about her blog and here’s what she had to say…

Please tell me about yourself.

I am a thirty-something mom of two, living in the suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia.  I work part time as a pharmacy technician and am a very active parent volunteer at my kid’s school.  I love to garden, although it is difficult with a puppy who is always rummaging around in the dirt looking for things to eat! I was born and raised in New England and no matter how long I spend in the south, I will always prefer my cornbread with a little bit of sugar!

Please tell me about your blog.

I started blogging as a way to make myself more aware of the choices I was making in life…put it in print and it becomes more real.  The name, Turning the Clock Back, was a reminder to myself to slow down and learn to live a simpler and more healthy lifestyle.  I wanted to raise the awareness of others about the state of our environment. Organic and locally grown products are important to me and since they aren’t cheap I am always looking for coupons and great deals for myself and I pass them on to my readers.

How long have you been blogging?

I started in January of this year, so about 9 months.

How did you get started?

My sister was a big help.  She has been blogging for a couple of years now and any time I had a question, she had an answer!  She gave me tips on how to set up my blog, how to increase my followers, and how to market myself to PR firms. I couldn’t have done it without her help!

What kinds of products do you feature on your blog?

I try and keep the focus of my blog rather narrow and mainly feature products that are ecofriendly in one way or another.  I love to cook, garden, and read, so there are lots of food and book reviews.  I branch out occasionally to general health, exercise, and beauty type products.

What was your favourite giveaway?

Tough question!  My favorite so far that I received to review (and give away) was probably the case of Zevia natural soda. I have a terrible Diet Coke addiction that I am trying to kick and I LOVED that soda! I will be doing another giveaway for this company in a couple weeks if anyone else wants to try it!

Who does your blog appeal to?

I think most of my followers are in the 20’s to 40’s mom category but I have men, singles, grandparents, etc.  Anyone who is looking for simple recipes, gardening updates, or a great new organic product.

What direction do you see your blog going in the future?

I would like to continue growing and finding new and interesting products to review.  I would like to start doing more creative writing on current trends in the environmental sector. The green movement is huge right now and even mainstream companies are jumping into it.  I love seeing all the upcycled art, backpacks made from plastic water bottles, and Fair Trade Certified products.  More people are starting to demand these things and the companies are listening.

What is the biggest challenge you have faced so far with your blog?

Finding a balance between the reviews and giveaways, coupons and freebies, and articles that I want to write about current events. I don’t want to lose sight of why I started blogging…to remind myself and educate others, that the choices we make in life have far reaching consequences!

What do you love about blogging?

I love learning about new ecofriendly companies, finding new recipes, and meeting other people. (okay, cyber-meeting!) And, to be honest, I am rather opinionated and on my blog I can post my opinion and if you don’t like it, you don’t have to read it!

Do you have a blogging pet peeve?

I am a rule following kindof girl and if the Friday Follow specifically states ‘no links to other blog hops’ I should not click on that link only to find your blog hop!  I try and always follow back if you leave a comment, come visit occasionally, and, in general, watch my manners in the blogosphere.  It bugs me when people don’t do the same!

Do you have any advice for the readers entering your giveaway? newbie review bloggers?

To the newbies: ask questions!  There are a lot of blogger groups that have newbie sections to join.  Things will go SO much easier if you have help!

For people entering my giveaways: check your email!  Recently, I am having to draw new winners of giveaways because people aren’t responding to my emails that they won!  Sad to lose your prize because you didn’t know you had won it!

Tell me some of your favourite blogs that you read.
