Blog Spotlight | Retro Housewife The Remix
Today I would like to welcome Shakira from Retro Housewife: The Remix. I had a chance to learn more about her blog and here’s what she had to say…
Please tell me about yourself.
I am a mother to alot of kids. I am currently a student in my last year of college. I am a mother to a preemie who has many medical challenges. I love vintage items, cooking and being a wife.
Please tell me about your blog.
My blog is a sometimes humorous take on cooking, cleaning and thrift shop/garage sale shopping. My tag line is the “Housewife Handbook to food, wine and garage sale finds”. I haven’t featured any wine yet. I need to get on that.
How long have you been blogging?
I had a starter blog back in Feb. just trying to figure things out and then started this blog in June.
How did you get started?
My preemie couldn’t be out in the winter so I was stuck at home and lacking social interaction. I decided to listen to the voices in my head and type out what they tell me. Just kidding, after having a special needs baby my house was a disaster area. I thought starting the blog would help hold me accountable to keeping the house clean and inspire my cooking.
What kinds of products do you feature on your blog?
I only do reviews on products that I love. When I find a product that I think is awesome I practically beg the company to allow me to review/giveaway. Sometimes it works. Mostly I look for baby/kid items, great products for mom, and healthy living items.
What was your favourite giveaway?
I don’t think I could choose, I have loved everything so far.
Who does your blog appeal to?
My blog would probably appeal to any mother or wife. But especially to ones who strive to be like that perfect 50’s housewife, but yet burns dinner and realizes she is was wearing two different shoes all day. I think any woman who loves to garage sale and thrift shop would love my blog too. Especially the ones that are looking for that beautiful vintage Holy Grail piece but instead come home from the thrift store with a clown head figurine because it’s funny.
What direction do you see your blog going in the future?
I would love to become more humorous and inappropriate. No seriously, I would love to continue learning about thrifting items and cook wonderful recipes. I would also like to increase product reviews.
What is the biggest challenge you have faced so far with your blog?
Typing with a baby in my lap. That has been really difficult. Currently my baby is working on a social experiment to see who many nights I can go without sleep. I think she is happy with the results. I’m also technologically impaired.
What do you love about blogging?
I don’t get out much now and the social interaction is wonderful. I love meeting other bloggers. I love getting comments. I love those little moments in life where you say “I’m going to blog about this”.
Do you have a blogging pet peeve?
I don’t think I really have a blogging pet peeve. Maybe just entering giveaways where there is a laundry list of things to do to enter. That’s why I keep mine simple.
Do you have any advice for the readers entering your giveaway? newbie review bloggers?
I try to make my giveaways easy to enter. I’m still a new blog so entries are pretty low and everyone has a really good chance at winning. I try to consider the readers when doing giveaways. Newbie review bloggers… be prepared for companies to say “no” or never contact you back.
Tell me some of your favourite blogs that you read.
I love the Knowlton Nest. She continues to help me. I love the recipes at One Crazy Cookie. Oh there are so many. Apron Thift Girl, Thrift Shop Horrors. I follow SO many blogs!
