Blog Spotlight | I’d Rather Be Changing Diapers
Today I would like to welcome Heather from I’d Rather Be Changing Diapers. I had a chance to learn more about her blog and here’s what she had to say…
Please tell me about yourself.
My name is Heather. I just turned 26 but really I am just going to be 25 for life. 25 is a good age and number. I have two sons who are 1 and 2 right now; they keep me on my toes but I love them to death. I eventually want 4 kids. I feel blessed to be able to stay home with my boys during the day and not have to work. I am married to the love of my life, Patrick, and we live in Charleston, SC. I never want to move away.
Please tell me about your blog.
I’d Rather Be Changing Diapers was born out of my desire to try out products and bring honest opinions to other moms out there. I want to be a breath of fresh air with my honesty and thoroughness. I have always loved to write but have had a hard time finding an outlet for that with being a stay at home mother. After reading other mommy blogs for about a year, I decided to try it out on my own. I love being able to create relationships with companies, with my readers, and other blogs. It is amazing to discover all the amazing people and products out there in the world. I am still evolving as a unique brand of my own so I love to hear comments, suggestions, and ideas from my followers and readers. I hope to always remain open to what my readers want to see and hear.
How long have you been blogging?
I started seriously blogging since October 2009 when I started Rather Be Changing Diapers. But I have had my family blog since February 2008 which I started a month before my older son was born.
How did you get started?
I got started in the blogging world first because I wanted to share all my son’s milestones with our family and friends spread out all over the United States. Then I got into blogging for Rather Be Changing Diapers because I had been entering contests for months and wanted to bring giveaways to people also. I love being able to tell people they won a giveaway. I know the excitement you get when you read a congratulations email.
What kinds of products do you feature on your blog?
I feature family friendly products. I am open to anything really but mostly it is kids products.
What was your favourite giveaway?
I have loved so many of my giveaways but I think probably the VTech MobiGo has been my favorite so far. I am such a kid at heart and love cool toys.
Who does your blog appeal to?
My blog appeals mostly to moms and grandmas but there are things for non parents also.
What direction do you see your blog going in the future?
I see it staying about the same but gaining more followers, hopefully getting more participation, and hosting a lot more awesome giveaways. I want to have a mix of deals, reviews, giveaways, and posts about subjects that are important.
What is the biggest challenge you have faced so far with your blog?
Probably the hardest thing for me is finding a happy medium between my blog and my life at home. Some weeks it is really hard to keep up both. I want to be a great mom and wife and not neglect my family but I don’t want to neglect my family, readers, and the products/companies I have to review.
What do you love about blogging?
It is an outlet for me. I love writing, and I love being able to bring others products that they might like.
Do you have a blogging pet peeve?
People bashing people. Especially bloggers bashing other bloggers about stupid stuff. I like to see everyone working together and being nice to each other. It’s not worth the drama. I think people forget there is a person behind each blog and computer with a face, real name, and feelings.
Do you have any advice for the readers entering your giveaway? newbie review bloggers?
For people entering my contest- Good luck! I hope you win! I keep it fair and use random.org every time. I don’t play favorites or pick someone else if that person has won a few giveaways already. The first person who comes up wins. I give lots of entry opportunities so you have a great shot of winning any given giveaway.
For newbie review bloggers- Just jump in with both feet and have confidence. Contact companies even if you think you aren’t big enough. You might just be surprised. And act confident and sure of yourself. No company will trust you if you are unsure of yourself and your blog. At first you will have to do all the contacting but eventually companies will start contacting you. And join networks like Twitter Moms, The Product Review Place, Moms Blogger Club, etc. They will be your lifeline starting out and you can meet some wonderful ladies!
