Secret Review

I noticed a couple years ago that looks from the 80s were coming back into style. I am a fan of 80s music, but 80s fashion? I was a bit unsure at first. However, it kind of grew on me and my daughter, Olivia, sports many 80s fashion trends. Now if only the 80s bangs would come back into style…they were the only kind of hair I was good at doing! Just kidding! I am not sure we have gone there just yet!

One fashion trend I recall fondly from the 80s was the leggings. I wore these ALL THE TIME as a kid. I remember I had one pair that I wore so much that it had holes throughout and I refused to let my mom throw them out. I wanted to wear them every day. My mom had other plans though and covertly through them in the garbage. I caught wind of what she did and went into the trash and found them. Yes, I picked through garbage. But these were my beloved leggings and I had to have them back- holes and all!

Thankfully, I don’t wear those leggings anymore and am not even sure what happened to them, but I am glad to see this trend coming back into fashion. Secret hosiery is the first brand I think of when I think of panty hose, but they also have a wide assortment of other products like tights and leggings in many styles. It has come a long way since the 80s!

Secret sent me a generous package with tights and leggings in every style and colour imaginable! I never even realized I had so many options! Take for instance the Fashion Tights which are patterned tights in fun and funky styles. They come in five looks:

  • Fishnet Back Seam with silver or gold back seam
  • Circles
  • Geometric Maze
  • Horizontal Diamond
  • Mini Faux Stringer

I tried two pairs in black in the Circles and the Diamond pattern. I actually just watched an episode of Gossip Girl the other day and Blair was wearing a pair of funky tights and I thought to myself that I loved how they looked. Then a few days later, mine arrived! These would be great paired with a little black dress (or a dress of any colour for that matter) for a holiday party. It definitely spices up my look and is more daring than the styles I normally wear. They are available to fit all shapes and sizes and can be purchased at major department stores nationwide.  They retail between $8.50 to $10.

Oh the tights….where do I even begin! I was blown away by all the colours to choose from. Blue, Black, Red, Grey, Plum, Camel, Berry and Lacey patterns give me SO MANY looks to work with! If I want to stick with my standard all black attire, I could wear a pair of black tights with my black skirt and top. If I want to be bold, I would choose my red pair and give myself a splash of fun, flirty colour. My legs are one of my better features so I like to show them off. These tights are comfy to wear and that’s very important to me. They also have a bit of shine so they show your legs in the best possible light. I find them very slimming and I feel sexy just wearing them. You can purchase them for $7.50/pair.

As I was mentioning before, leggings are the rage nowadays. They can worn with a mid-thigh tunic or skirt and finished off with a dainty pair of ballerina flats. They are more my daughter’s thing than mine as I prefer my beloved tights. Olivia is very fashion forward for her age and is way ahead of me when it comes to what’s in style.  The leggings all come in the same colours as the tights and have that same shiny look. John and I went to Halifax a few weeks ago and it seemed like every women we saw was wearing leggings!!! They also come with a control top panty and retail for $7.95.

For your next holiday party, try a pair of Secret tights or leggings by either visiting a major department store near you or purchasing them online.
