Our Coupon Home Review
Our Coupon Home is a “one stop” shop that can help you save valuable time and money using the printable coupon forum, grocery store and drug store forums and even the neat “coupon neighbor” feature. More importantly, Our Coupon Home is free and easy to navigate.
When I left the corporate world to raise our three children, one of the main areas that we could save money is with our grocery food budget. I have always used coupons but I took it to the next level when we went to one income. I have had people all the time telling me “I wish I could do that but it would take too much time.” When I can show them through receipts (yes, I log all my tangible savings in a book) what we saved just in 2009…they are shocked. Using coupons, sales and buy one get one free specials put an extra $8,742.11 in our budget in just one year alone. This year we are on target to save over $12,000 total on groceries, necessities and “other.” I will also say that we eat very healthy and do not use any coupons for “junk” food which does make it a little bit harder but with creativity and a little extra leg-work there are tons of savings on organic and natural foods. How much time does it take me? It really doesn’t take too much time now that I am in a routine but on average an extra 15 minutes per week to cut coupons and about 20 minutes extra at the grocery store to match coupons with deals. Not to mention the “thrill of the deal” when I see my savings and know that I am contributing financially to my family.
Our Coupon Home is an excellent way to get started learning more about couponing and saving money on your groceries and necessities. It is also perfect for those who are already couponing but want to save extra time finding deals at the grocery store and even interacting with other couponers who always love to share the big deals. The forums are very easy to navigate and I really like the “Coupon Neighbor” forum which gives you a “buddy” to help you if you are just starting out. I think this is a fantastic feature because many people who are interested in couponing procrastinate because they feel overwhelmed or just don’t know where to start.
My favorite feature of the Our Coupon Home forums allows you to select your favorite grocery store or drugstore and in my case it is Publix, Whole Foods and CVS. I can instantly access the current in ad and weekly coupons before I head out to the store. There is even the list of free oral antibiotics at Publix which saved me money recently when I needed to pick up a specific medication because I got it for FREE! For those like me who love to eat healthy, the Whole Foods forum can be a big money saver. I just swoon over the Weekly Match Up with the weekly savings because instead of doing it myself I can save extra time just clicking on the link! Isn’t it great to let someone else do the work?
I recently went to the grocery store armed with my coupon book and $20 and wanted to share some of the deals that I found. My total shopping trip took only 35 minutes from start to check out and here are some of my savings at Publix. There was a special on Classico® Tomato Sauce for $1.84 per jar. I noticed that each jar had a $1.00 off coupon and another had “buy two get one free”. So for this special I purchased two jars for $1.84-$1.00=.84 cents each and then I received the third jar for FREE. That makes it a total of $1.68 for THREE jars of Classico® pasta sauce! Add a healthy whole grain pasta which was on sale for buy- one- get one free (total $1.40) for two) and a side dish of vegetables, Birds Eye® was 50% off per bag for only 72 cents for a bag of mixed vegetables (plus .40 cents off=32cents). I was able to feed my family of five a healthy pasta meal with vegetables for approximately $2.00! What I like to do when I find a deal like this is to stock pile and really have enough on hand to have this meal several times over the next month or two and I also don’t need to go to the grocery store as much.
I was very impressed with Our Coupon Home and plan to be a regular visitor and hopefully hit our goal of saving over $15,000 in 2011. There are so many useful forums besides couponing to make it a “one stop” shop including parenting and “real life” forums. If you are thinking about starting to save money with coupons or are already saving big I would love to invite you to visit Our Coupon Home and check out your favorite forums….don’t forget it’s totally free!
