Book Review | The Adventures of Blue Ocean Bob (Volume 1)
Author: Brooks Olbrys
The Adventures of Blue Ocean Bob (Volume 1) by Brooks Olbrys is a children’s book that explores a young boy’s quest to discover his purpose in life. My own children immediately gravitated towards this book because they are native Floridians and have grown up on the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico amid the sea creatures and ocean life.
The main character, young Bob has a wonderful life on an island but yearns to discover what the future has in store for him. He sets off on a grand adventure accompanied by his friend, a bird named Xena. Along the way he meets a charming cast of sea creatures including the wise old turtle “Doc” who mentors young Bob.
The Adventures of Blue Ocean Bob is a book that wants children to “Think it. See it. Believe it. Achieve it.” I love that it empowers children to seek out their passion in life and believe that they can achieve success and goals. The rhyming text conveys this message in such a way that it is easily understood by my children who automatically started discussing what they dream about becoming when they get older. My five year old wants to “build and drive Monster Trucks”, my four year old daughter wants to be a “Veterinarian” and my three year old son wants to “live forever snuggling with Mommy” (that was my personal favorite).
The illustrations by Aleksandra Beaucher are quite lovely, colorful and make me want to take a trip to the closest island getaway.
The Adventures of Blue Ocean Bob is inspired by the teachings of Bob Proctor, best-selling author and personal development coach. I do think of this as a “first motivational book” for children and like it’s positive message.
