Blog Spotlight | Cheap Geeks Anonymous
Today I would like to welcome Flufferwuffer from Cheap Geeks Anonymous. I had a chance to learn more about her blog and here’s what she had to say…
Please tell me about your blog.
Cheap Geeks Anonymous is a site where anyone can come and discover the geek in themselves. I believe that you can be geeky about just about anything, and that’s what I write about. I’m a food geek, book geek, video game geek, movie geek…the list goes on!
How long have you been blogging?
I started my blog about 3 months ago, so I’m still pretty new!
How did you get started?
Well, it all started when I found a few awesome blogs with awesome giveaways. I started wishing that I could be the one to host the giveaways, but didn’t think I had anything to write about. But when I really got to thinking about it, I realized that I have plenty to say! I focus my blog around geekery because that’s what captures my interests the most.
What kinds of products do you feature on your blog?
I like to feature products that, frankly, can be labeled geeky by me. For example, since I consider my love of reading sci-fi/fantasy geeky, it wouldn’t be too surprising to see me reviewing a book or series. On the other hand, I love getting my hands on new gadgets, no matter what they’re for.
What was your favourite giveaway?
Well, I’ve only hosted one giveaway, but I have one coming up that I’m really excited about. I hope everyone around the blogosphere feels the same once it’s posted!
Who does your blog appeal to?
I try to pick topics that will appeal to everyone. I’m working on gaining readers who are part of the nerdy college/high school crowd, but we’ll see how that goes. I’m not too picky; if I have readers, I’m smiling!
What direction do you see your blog going in the future?
In the future, I hope to be a go-to site for technology reviews and other geektastic reviews, plus a place where you have a shot at winning what I review. There would also be no shortage of tech news and other random soliloquies by yours truly.
What is the biggest challenge you have faced so far with your blog?
So far, my biggest challenge is running out of material. I have hit the wall a couple of times, not knowing what to write. Mostly, I get this problem because most of my audience consists of mommy bloggers or giveaway blogs, and I know those readers aren’t as tech-savvy as me. So, do I write the post about Steve Jobs or leave it alone? Do I write about what’s new in Halo: Reach or forget about it, knowing most of my readers don’t play or remotely care about the Halo series? Seriously, if someone could give me advice on this, I would be more than grateful.
What do you love about blogging?
I love the interaction. And that’s not to say that I don’t get off the computer and spend time with friends off the internet. There’s just something so amazing to me about being able to write something and have people care about it, comment on it, learn something from it. Along with that, you get encouragement from people who hardly know you (or maybe they know you more than you think) who admire your writing and what you have to say.
Do you have a blogging pet peeve?
Right now, the biggest one is when I join a blog hop, and someone leaves a comment saying “I’m a new follower! Please come follow me, too! Love your blog!” or something similar. I check to see if they’re really following me, and guess what? Nope! To me, it’s very low if you’re going to try and get followers by flat-out lying to people…
Do you have any advice for the readers entering your giveaways? newbie review bloggers?
I’m a newbie review blogger myself, so I don’t think I know enough to be giving advice yet.
Tell me some of your favourite blogs that you read.
