Blog Spotlight | Being Tazim
Today I would like to welcome Tazim from Being Tazim. I had a chance to learn more about her blog and here’s what she had to say…
Please tell me about yourself.
I live in Vancouver, Canada but grew up in both Calgary and Houston (Texas). I have a background in interior decorating, which I love to focus on on my blog. I have been practicing art since I was a kid in one form or another, but just recently opened my online stores on Artfire and Etsy, under username studioahimsa, to pursue one of my true passions. I enjoy living a thrifty, environmentally friendly life.
Please tell me about your blog.
My blog was started as a way to focus on my ‘hidden’ personas. As a full-time student at the University of British Columbia for the past few years, I have focused on little other than being a student. This blog came out of my desire to pursue my creative personas. I have different features that I stick to for days of the week, but I also add in extra posts when I feel like adding something. I don’t always write on every topic every week, but I like to have things to keep in mind when blogging to inspire posts.
- Home Decor Monday
- Museum Art Monday
- Shop Talk Tuesday
- Weekly Persona Wednesday
- Travel Thursday
- Favourite Things Friday
- Store or Studio Saturday
- Lucky Sunday
- Thrifty Sunday
How long have you been blogging?
I started my blog a few months ago, in March 2010.
How did you get started?
Starting a blog and opening an online store are two of the things that I have always wanted to do ‘some day’. This year, because I was turning 30, I decided to stop waiting and get on with doing the things I want to do in life!
What kinds of products do you feature on your blog?
As a handmade product shop owner myself, I know how important it is to get a bit of support where possible. . .so I feature handmade jewelry and other products. I also feature home and kitchen-related products, organic and vegan items, and the occasional book.
What was your favourite giveaway?
I loved featuring Sass & Peril’s products and giving away a choice of screen-print and plush keychain. I also enjoyed receiving the opportunity to review a pressure cooker from CSN stores.
I am a Blogmania blog with some great sponsors, and I will also be sponsoring some blogs as well with items from my store! It should be an exciting month and a half leading up to the September event!
Who does your blog appeal to?
Since my blog focuses on pursuing creativity, it appeals to others who are interested in art, design, and home decor. I also write about travel, operating an online shop, and occasionally about food. My blog appeals to other people interested in creative pursuits, but also people who enjoy entering giveaways and reading about artists and new (homemade and other) products.
What direction do you see your blog going in the future?
I hope to include more on the blog related to my first career as an interior decorator. Even though I don’t pursue this career professionally any longer, I am still very interested in design and home decor. I would especially love to feature home tours or studio tours or before/after projects. I would also be interested in reviewing kitchen and home-related products that would fit in with my interests. I’d like to feature more artists each week as well.
What is the biggest challenge you have faced so far with your blog?
Getting people to leave comments is something that is at times challenging! I love reading what people have to say and reply to each comment. It is also challenging to get people to visit often – I know that there are a lot of good blogs out there, though!
What do you love about blogging?
I am pleased with how things have come together with this blog and enjoy working on it everyday. I have met a lot of great bloggers through various communities that make me certain that this is a good use of my time.
Do you have a blogging pet peeve?
When contact information is difficult to find. I also would like to see an ‘about me’ section on every blog!
Do you have any advice for the readers entering your giveaway?
Please remember to read entry requirements, like the mandatory entry!
newbie review bloggers?
I am pretty new to it myself, but I would say to only accept and review products that you are really interested in. Also, be sure to think about the time commitment versus the product you receive or money.
Tell me some of your favourite blogs that you read.
Kylie’s Flying Ducks blog is inspirational
I absolutely love reading design/decor blogs.
I also love Fabulously Broke in the City
