My Review:

I am already a Lauren Conrad fan having read her L.A. Candy books and watching all five seasons of The Hills. I was very excited to see that she had written a book where she shares all her fashion and beauty secrets. I always admired her sense of style on The Hills and wondered how she managed to look so good all the time!

The book is separated into three sections: Fashion, Beauty and Lifestyle. In Fashion, she shares tips on building your wardrobe and what are the essentials. I found it interesting to learn that she never wore the same look for her entire run on The Hills. She gives examples how to get different looks out of the same articles of clothing. I am not much of a fashionista and prefer to be comfy rather than stylish, but I still enjoyed reading about her experiences. She gives tips on how to shop in different types of stores- the high end boutiques, vintage stores and the big box retail stores. I got a kick out of her fashion no-nos. She’s says you should never wear jogging pants to the grocery store and should get dressed up when you leave the house. I’m guilty of this fashion sin and have been seen out and about in my small town in my jogging pants and sweatshirts. Oops.

I loved her make up types especially on how she does her eyeliner. I always thought her eyes really popped and wanted to see if I could achieve the same look. Boy, do I need practice! Did you know that Lauren doesn’t wear eyeshadow? I never even realized she didn’t!

In Lifestyle, she gets into dressing for work and school and gives tips on what to bring with you when you go on trips (depending on the purpose of the trip). I don’t own hardly any of what she suggests to bring, but I could see this book being very useful for my younger sisters who are much more fashion forward than me. I could see my sister Jillian devouring this book. It could be a Christmas gift idea for her….

In any case, I enjoyed the book and Lauren Conrad’s conversational tone. It was like having a girlfriend giving me beauty and fashion advice! It also had great pictures of Lauren’s many looks! This girl knows her stuff!
