Book Review | If I Could Keep You Little
Title: If I Could Keep You Little…
Author: Marianne Richmond
If I Could Keep You Little, written and illustrated by Marianne Richmond is such an endearing book. The other day my oldest son, age 5 called me “Mom”….not his usual “Mommy”. My heart sank for a moment and visions of my children growing up flashed before me in an instant.
If I Could Keep You Little is simply delightful and all of my children thoroughly enjoyed the story and colorful illustrations. I think the one person in our family who enjoyed it the most was…..me! If I Could Keep You Little really spoke to me as a mom who struggles with the reality that my children are growing up. This book truly celebrates the beauty of watching a child blossom and become independent while addressing the complex emotions that I feel as a parent when I need to let them go.
I admit that my eyes welled up with tears at these beautiful words…..
“If I could keep you little,
I’d keep you close to me.”
“But then I’d miss you GROWING into
who you’re meant to be!”
If you are like me and want to keep your children small forever, then this book will help you to imagine the wonderful life they are going to have as they get older and makes it a little less painful….it is a celebration of young life. I highly recommend this book!
