Blog Spotlight | Two Monkeys & A Washtub

Today I would like to welcome Beth from Two Monkeys & A Washtub. I had a chance to learn more about her blog and here’s what she had to say…

Please tell me about yourself.

My name is Beth and I am a full-time working mom to two young boys (ages 2 & 4), a great dane, and three cats. My husband and I have been married for nearly 10 years and we hang out in Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas.

Please tell me about your blog.

Two Monkeys & a Washtub is a blog about life with two young boys, a supportive husband, and our great dane. I blog about finding the new me through weight loss and trying to determine how the “new me” will really be happy, about our great dane, Logan, and his lazy adventures, and about cooking with kids. I also co-host Surfin’ Saturdays every week where we check out various social media networks. Included in all those posts are product reviews, giveaways, and great family activities!

How long have you been blogging?

Almost 2 years, but really devoted to it over the last three months and determined to grow an audience and reach out to get to know other bloggers too!

How did you get started?

I started blogging to post great deals and freebies and to show people that you could donate a lot to charity without spending much. Although I still do that outside of blogging, that “blogging market” is saturated with great bloggers, and I wanted to find my own place in the blogosphere. I’m still working on that at Two Monkeys & a Washtub but it’s getting there!

What kinds of products do you feature on your blog?

I feature pretty much anything and everything family-friendly. From toys, books, music, DVDs, clothing, accessories, and webstores, I pretty much try to cover it all but I’m honest in my reviews and try to give away only products that I would want to take the time to enter!

What was your favourite giveaway?

Zhu Zhu Pets when they first came out. It was great to be able to give away a really desired gift to someone that probably wouldn’t be able to find it in stores and surprise their kids for Christmas.

Who does your blog appeal to?

Likely parents, both to two-legged and four-legged children. In addition, anyone searching for who they want to be one year from now since I really spend Mondays focused on finding the new me (even though mine is weight loss, it’s not mandatory to be part of the discussion).

What direction do you see your blog going in the future?

I hope to increase my audience, increase my product reviews and giveaways and be able to focus more time on reaching out to companies for reviews.

What is the biggest challenge you have faced so far with your blog?

I work full-time, so besides finding time to blog, I would say it is finding my place on the web and determining my voice and what I really want to represent.

What do you love about blogging?

I work in a job that doesn’t leave much room for creativity, so blogging is my creative outlet. My blog is the place where I just get to be me! I also love finding out about all these great new products that are coming out and checking out what others are saying..with travel, work, and two young kids, there isn’t much room for the social life I had before kids so at least online friends can be part of it after the kids go to bed!

Do you have a blogging pet peeve?

Not yet! Guess I’m lucky, but I do hate when bloggers require that you follow in order to enter a giveaway…I’ll come back if I like what you say…it shouldn’t be mandatory!

Do you have any advice for the readers entering your giveaway? newbie review bloggers?

Read the mandatory entry requirements…they are normally really easy, but I have had to redraw because the winners missed a step in the entry requirement. In addition, it only takes like 2 or 3 minutes to enter the additional entry methods, so take the time to increase your chances to win!

Tell me some of your favourite blogs that you read.
