Blog Spotlight | A Mom After God’s Own Heart
Today I would like to welcome Shirley from A Mom After God’s Own Heart. I had a chance to learn more about her blog and here’s what she had to say…
Please tell me about yourself.
I am a Canadian, living in Southern Alberta. I am a 37 year old mom of two girls, ages 3.5 and 2 yrs. I have been married to my Bible College sweetheart since 1997. I am a 5 year cancer survivor, and I am also a Christian. I love to read, scrapbook, shop and hang out with my family and friends. I love to watch sports like the Olympics and Hockey, and I have started to pick up running again, with a goal to complete a half marathon, hopefully next year.
Please tell me about your blog.
My blog is a product and book review blog, where I enjoy featuring family friendly products, as well as those specific to moms, women, and children. I love to promote green living, and my life as a Christian mom and wife.
How long have you been blogging?
I began blogging in October 2008 as a way to update my out-of-town family and friends on my family life. In August 2009, I began doing product and book reviews
How did you get started?
I started with reviews and giveaways by reviewing a few of my favourite products that I use in my home. After that I began being in contact with companies and publishers to complete reviews and host giveaways
What kinds of products do you feature on your blog?
I feature mostly books, but have recently began featuring products that are for children, moms, and women. I prefer to remain family friendly, as this stays in line with being a Christian mom and wife.
What was your favourite giveaway?
My favourite giveaway was a Strider Pre-Bike, as well as a DVD set from PBS Kids
Who does your blog appeal to?
Women, moms, grandmothers, and kids!
What direction do you see your blog going in the future?
I would love to be able to become involved with more large ticket products to review and giveaway. I am also in the planning stage of starting a weekly post that would feature activities and activities for educating preschool children.
What is the biggest challenge you have faced so far with your blog?
Making time to blog on a regular basis. For the most part I try to post daily, but with two young children and a home daycare, plus all the normal activities, it can be hard sometimes.
What do you love about blogging?
I love telling readers about great products and books, as well as meeting great people who have the same ideals and focus as me. I have met a wonderful group of women, and found some amazing blogs!
Do you have a blogging pet peeve?
Actually not really.
Do you have any advice for the readers entering your giveaway? newbie review bloggers?
For readers entering giveaways, please make sure you do mandatory entries, so you don’t get disqualified from the giveaways. Also, make sure you leave a way for me to contact you if you are chosen as a giveaway winner. I have had to pick new winners on a few great giveaways because I had no way to contact an entrant.
For Newbie review bloggers- the easiest way to get in the review blogging world is to review what you already have in your home. If you have been using a product for a while, you know it well and can be very honest in your review. And companies read those reviews too!
