Popcornopolis Review

A night out at the movies or a night in with a Netflix DVD is just not the same unless there’s popcorn. But as much as I love the taste of freshly popped, buttered and salted popcorn, I now have a new favorite style of popcorn thanks to the fine folks at

I always look forward to the holidays and the gifts my parents’ students give them, especially the popcorn tins with holiday-themed pictures on them generously filled to the brim with cheddar cheese, caramel, and buttery popcorn. Those pale in comparison to the gourmet flavors that has to offer.

Popcornopolis features a total of 19 different flavored popcorns, and I received 6 of those flavors to try out. My mind was spinning as I looked over the list and tried to narrow it down to the ones I knew I would absolutely love. But there is so much more than just the taste to love about this company. I received my popcorn flavors packaged in cones that resemble cake frosting bags, which were created to help the popcorn stay fresh. Each of the cones comes with a special twist-tie to reseal the cones after they have been opened, and the popcorn is guaranteed to stay fresh for up to 3 months. But seriously–do you really think you’ll have any left after 3 months? Trust me, you won’t! And best of all for the conscientious consumer, all the ingredients are readily noted on the company site. This is especially useful for those wondering if the products contain MSG or gluten–by the way, they don’t.

The best part is that you have options when ordering your popcorn. You can order them in cones, tins, and gift baskets; the flavor combinations are totally up to you. Cones are sold in packs of 4 (your choice of flavors, or 4 of any kind) and the prices vary depending on what you choose. For my favorite flavor, Zebra Chocolate, a 4-pack sells for $39.95. Cone sizes come in Mini (contains 4 cups and comes with Caramel flavor only), Regular (contains between 7 and 8 cups, weights varying between the flavor you choose), and Jumbo (contains between 12 and 14 cups, weights varying between the flavor you choose).

The next time your company needs a great gift for their clients, you need a holiday gift idea, or you just want to spoil yourself, order from In addition to gourmet popcorn, they also offer candied apples, candied nuts, and chocolates. You can place an order online or give them a call at 1-800-POP-CITY.

Here’s what I thought of the 6 flavors I got to try:

Chocolate Almond: This was the first cone I opened, and either the first or second cone I finished. The combination of sweet caramel, dark chocolate, and candied almonds was heaven to my taste buds. I did not want to share this one with anyone at all, but I let my neighbor have a few nibbles to see what she thought, and she loved it.

Cheddar Cheese: Not only did I love the foamy texture of the popcorn, I loved the bold cheddar flavor that generously coated every bite. Cheddar cheese has always been my favorite flavor of popcorn, but the store brands just can’t compete with

Caramel: This is the way that caramel popcorn should be made. The caramel is smooth, generously coats each piece, but doesn’t stick in your teeth the way other brands do. This is the best choice for caramel I have ever had the pleasure of tasting.

Sour Cream and Onion: I have always loved sour cream and onion flavored potato chips, so why wouldn’t I love the popcorn, too? Like with the cheddar, the popcorn has a light, foamy texture and the flavor comes out in each bite. I’d even wager this is a healthier alternative to sour cream and onion chips. This is definitely not a flavor you want to miss out on.

Zebra Chocolate: Sinfully divine! This is popcorn?! Who knew it could taste like the most decadent chocolate candy you’ve ever had? The caramel coating then layered with dark and white chocolate made for a truly delicious snacking experience. I am in mourning that I have none left, and I will be saving up my pennies to order more. Hide this one from your family and friends!

Gourmet White: This one I shared with my neighbors during a Movie Night. There were 4 of us plus my 2-year-old baby, and the popcorn was literally gone in minutes. It tastes even better than movie theatre popcorn, just as buttery and salty, but without the greasy butter left over on fingertips.
