Book Review | City on Our Knees

Title: City on Our Knees

Author: Toby Mac

My Review:

This book is filled with stories of people who have done both simple and over the top things for God. I believe the intention of this book is to encourage the reader to do the same. Pick something and do it…. it’s not rocket science.

From a pre-schooler dying with cancer who raises money to try and find a cure for other sick kids by selling lemonade to the 12 year old boy who wants to stop the practice of slavery of children all over the world using spare change. They are making a real difference in the world.

It is easy to sit in your comfort zone and let life pass you by, but true satisfaction comes from giving to others and trying to change your little world for the better, Who knows how far the change can spread?

Toby wants the reader to know that none of this can be accomplished without prayer. It’s vitally important to base our actions not on what we want to do, but to be led by God’s power to do what He wants us to do.

My favorite chapter in the book is called “What Love Looks Like,” and it reminds us that the most important thing to give away is love. This quote is one that brings that to light…

” We have seen religion, but this is love… we have seen aid, we have seen religion, we have seen programs- but we have never seen love.” {Sudanese Man}

This is what the world and, sadly enough, the Church is missing today. True love and compassion for our fellow man and I think Toby Mac has really hit the nail on the head. This is a great book that will cause you to wonder if you are giving enough away… not money, but time, love and yourself. Great inspirational book.

I received a copy of this book to review but I was not financially compensated in any way. The opinions expressed are my own and are based on my observations while reading this novel.*
