Title: Ah-Choo!: The Uncommon Life of Your Common Cold

Author: Jennifer Ackerman

My Review:

I was never afraid of the common cold until I had a baby with severe asthma triggered by any virus. When I had the opportunity to read the book “AH-CHOO!” by Jennifer Ackerman, I was excited to learn more about human rhinovirus so that I could understand how to better protect my daughter.

Any time an author is willing to be “injected” with actual human rhinovirus as part of the research process, I am hooked. “AH-CHOO”  is a fascinating read and I devoured all the facts and myths pertaining to the dreaded cold. For example, did you know that President Coolidge intentionally inhaled chlorine gas for one hour in order to “vanquish the sniffles?” I have to admit that even I have not gone that far though I have tried many of the other remedies discussed in the book including vitamin D, vitamin C, zinc, honey and even vinegar. Are you curious as to which ones work and which ones are useless?

I highly recommend this book for anyone who has asthma, suffers from frequent colds or is just interested in healthcare.
