Blog Spotlight | Momma Drama
Today I would like to welcome Lara from Momma Drama. I had a chance to learn more about her blog and here’s what she had to say…
Please tell me about yourself.
I’m a 27 year old wife and mother. I have been married to my best friend for a little over 4 years. We met in high school and survived a long distance relationship through college. We have a beautiful daughter who turned one in May. She is truly the sunshine of our lives! Before I had my daughter I was a full time elementary school teacher. I completed my Masters degree in special education the week before my daughter was born and went into labor on the day of my graduation! Now I work 2 days a week as a technology consultant for a school for children with multiple disabilities. I think I’ve found a nice balance between being home and working, but I look forward to being a full time stay at home mom once we have baby number 2!
Please tell me about your blog.
My blog is named Momma Drama! I love the name because your life changes so much when you become a mom, but it’s still filled with drama. But the thing is, it’s not the same drama and it can be hard for your non-mommy friends to relate. It really is”momma” drama and you need other mommas to understand. Your friends don’t want to listen to you whine about spit-up or not sleeping enough. And they won’t be offering up fabulous advice about the best way to get rid of diaper rash. Your life is very interesting…. to you… and other moms.
How long have you been blogging?
I’ve been blogging for about 2 years. But Momma Drama has only been alive and well for about 8 months.
How did you get started?
I started a family blog when I was pregnant with my daughter. It was a way to keep my distant relatives up to date on nursery decorations, doctor’s appointments and now the growth and milestones for my daughter. But it was a “family” blog, so I couldn’t really complain or share too many details. I needed a place to communicate, whine and ask for advice from other moms. That’s how I started Momma Drama. It really just started out as a place I went to talk about being a new mom. I was thrilled, scared and confused all at the same time and I needed an outside support system to share all those feelings with. Then I started to read a lot of other mom blogs and got interested in reviewing products, so I started to incorporate that into my blog as well.
What kinds of products do you feature on your blog?
I mostly feature products for babies and young children, but I also do family friendly products. Especially things for moms… like beauty products, because we don’t treat ourselves nearly enough as we should!
What was your favourite giveaway?
I did a review and giveaway for a SodaStream Soda Maker and I really think it was one of my favorites! I went out on a limb and did a video as part of it. This is big for me because I hate how my voice sounds on recording. Even answering machines make me self conscious! So I had a lot of fun doing the review and it was my first big product giveaway, so it was exciting. It turned out to be a product I love. I use it all the time and it’s a huge hit at parties.
Who does your blog appeal to?
I think my blog appeals to most women, especially moms of young children.
What direction do you see your blog going in the future?
I’m hoping that my blog continues to grow. I would like to get back on track with more “mommy blogging” while still offering some exciting giveaways and reviews. But I think with the excitement of getting into reviews and giveaways I have gone away from my own blogging a little too much. I still do it, but not as often as I would like.
What is the biggest challenge you have faced so far with your blog?
Time. Blogging takes up a lot of time and sometimes I get myself stretched a little too thin and have lots of reviews to write. It can get a little stressful because I put a lot of pressure on myself to get things posted within a short time frame.
What do you love about blogging?
I love the people I’ve met and the support I have found. The other day I wrote about taking my daughter for a blood test and how it destroyed me. It felt so good to have other moms comment and let me know that I didn’t over react and they felt the same way. It’s so nice to have that support.
Do you have a blogging pet peeve?
It drives me bananas when people leave negative comments. I don’t think it’s right. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but be nice about it. We should all be friends and support each other.
Do you have any advice for the readers entering your giveaway? newbie review bloggers?
My advice for newbie bloggers would just be to not give up. It can seem like your numbers aren’t going up, maybe you’re not getting a lot of entries in giveaways. But if you are having fun and like blogging then keep going. You will get more out of it then you think!
Tell me some of your favourite blogs that you read.
Oh boy… I have found so many awesome blogs. People have such interesting stories and so much to share! But just a few of my favorites would be Life with the Lebedas, Mommy’s Free Time and Show Me Mama. All of these women are honest and straight forward. We support each other and I think we genuinely enjoy reading each others blogs.
How can people find you?
