Blog Spotlight | Cheap and Creative
Today I would like to welcome Michelle from Cheap and Creative. I had a chance to learn more about her blog and here’s what she had to say…
Please tell me about yourself.
Right now I’m a stay-at-home mom to a nearly 10 month old, Army wife, freelance photographer, and graduate student. Being outdoors – hiking, fishing, camping, kayaking, and running – makes me happy and I also love being indoors – cooking, reading, drawing, sewing, and crocheting. I love to have a lot of projects going at once, and I have more hobbies and goals than I can count. Everyone that knows me well, knows I’ve always got some new idea in the works!
Please tell me about your blog.
I have a couple blogs, my main one is cheapandcreative.blogspot.com. Cheap and Creative focuses on ideas and products that make eco-friendly easy and affordable. It features gardening, cloth diapering, making a little extra cash at home, recipes, organic deals and coupons, homemade beauty recipes, as well as reviews and giveaways.
One of my other blogs is armywifefornow.wordpress.com, which is mainly an outlet for me to express my experiences as an Army wife and trying to understand the Army lifestyle.
How long have you been blogging?
I started blogging in April 2009.
How did you get started?
Cheap and Creative was the first blog I started, the plan was to keep myself distracted while my husband was gone for four months of training. It didn’t start out as an eco-friendly blog, but I decided to make the switch about six months ago in order to better reflect my personal style and priorities.
What kinds of products do you feature on your blog?
I feature eco-friendly and organic products, as well as products for babies. I’m highly selective about what products I review and feature, I won’t recommend anything that I wouldn’t use (and keep using) in my own home.
What was your favourite giveaway?
So far, The FruitGuys, who deliver organic produce straight to your home, was one of my favorites. I enjoyed eating all of the delicious produce for the review! I have a few other exciting ones coming up though…
Who does your blog appeal to?
Anyone that is interested in organic and eco-friendly choices and products, cooking, gardening, or simply thrifty parents.
What direction do you see your blog going in the future?
More product reviews and giveaways, more recipes, and next year a bigger and better garden!
What is the biggest challenge you have faced so far with your blog?
Finding time to blog during the day. Now that my son is crawling and standing he keeps me much more on my toes and out of my computer chair than when he was tiny and sleeping most of the day. With that said, I still schedule a time to blog (usually during nap time), because it’s something I enjoy and find relaxing.
What do you love about blogging?
I love meeting new people with similar interests through my blog or the blogs I read. Also, I enjoy having the opportunity to share great products with other families through reviews and giveaways. When I first started blogging I would have never thought I’d make so many friends through this venture.
Plus blogging is a great way to find out about products from other parents, I look at many blog reviews before buying and trying something new. Blogs are a helpful resource for finding out about new products and how they REALLY work, to me it’s more trustworthy than many marketing campaigns.
Do you have a blogging pet peeve?
Do you have any advice for the readers entering your giveaway? newbie review bloggers?
If you are interested in trying a product, then enter a giveaway! The people who think they aren’t lucky and will never win, are usually the people that never enter in the first place.
For newbie bloggers – always blog about what you are interested in, and your passion will show in your writing. The blogs I enjoy most are the ones that are honest and reflect the author’s personal style.
Tell me some of your favourite blogs that you read.
