Title: Once in a Blue Moon

Author: Eileen Goudge

My Review:

I read all types of books, some help me in one way, and others tend to help me in ways you would never imagine this book is one of those books that helped me in ways I never knew I could be helped. Books have been a part of my life since I was a little girl watching my parents read book after book. When I was old enough to go to the library I would check out tons of books ever summer!

The book starts out in 1981 the year before I graduated high school! Sisters Lindsey and Kerrie Ann ended up growing up apart, one a decent life…the other not so good. After one bad decision after the other (boy do I know THAT), Kerrie Ann found herself trying to find the only person she was related to, but hadn’t seen since she was just a small girl. Kerrie Ann bounced from foster home to foster home and ultimately lost custody of her daughter because of bad decisions.

By the end of chapter 2 the sisters were back together, only not getting along so well (oh BOY do I know that!!!). The ups and downs of the relationship between them and their caretaker when the girls were younger (Miss Honi), really allowed you to bond with them. What really amazed me was watching Kerrie Ann change right before your eyes. It isn’t a love story, but you will watch two women fall in love with men that YOU would choose for them if YOU were their sister!

What I really got out of the whole book was this, and if you take anything with you, I hope you take this. At the very end Kerrie Ann is talking to the judge about her daughter, Kerrie Ann says, They say a leopard doesn’t change its spots, and I used to believe that, but now I know it’s not always true. I used to think that people can’t change, but I did it myself for MYSELF!  Read the book, even if you just want to read a good book the story line is awesome, the characters are too! Great book to take on an extended vacation and put your feet up, have a drink of your choice and enjoy! I know I did!

*I received a copy of this book to review but I was not financially compensated in any way. The opinions expressed are my own and are based on my observations while reading this novel.*
