Title: Made by Hand: Searching for Meaning in a Throwaway World

Author: Mark Frauenfelder

My Review:

Are you like me? Do you ever find yourself with a bag of “stuff” from any number of countless dollar stores wondering “why did I buy this?” And how may junk drawers do you have in your house? Be honest… hehe. Well, the author of this book, Mr. Frauenfelder wants all of us to take a step back and realize that some things we do in the name of convenience are really robbing us from living our lives.

This book dives into the world of DIY {do it yourself} and makes a discovery. Doing things yourself is very meaningful. Simple. How often do we just grab something in the drive through instead of cooking, go buy something to solve a problem without even trying ourselves… it’s time to get back to living meaningful lives by using our own two hands to take care of ourselves. It’s not only for ourselves, but for our families. There is so much bonding that takes place in a kitchen, workshop or in the garden even.

When you make something yourself, you discover how it works and even if it is not perfect, it is yours. You did it and as the author says, “it becomes a part of you.”

So this book is a perfect gift for the “do-it-yourself-er” or maybe for someone who need a little nudge in the DIY direction. I think the book is clever, well written and tells a lot about where we are in society and how technology has changed us… not always for the better. Now get out there and do something!

*I received a copy of this book to review but I was not financially compensated in any way. The opinions expressed are my own and are based on my observations while reading this novel.*
