Blog Spotlight | I Am A Wicked Cheap

Today I would like to welcome Alicia from I am wicked cheap! I had a chance to learn more about her blog and here’s what she had to say…

Please tell me about yourself.

My name is Alicia and I am 32 years old.  I have two Master’s Degrees (almost….just one more semester), I LOVE to paint (walls, not pictures), and have a super human sense of smell.  I drink way too much coffee and am The Guiding Light’s biggest fan…even though the show was canceled last September. The thing that people seem to find most interesting about me is that I had 4 kids in less than 4 years.

Please tell me about your blog.

I am wicked cheap! provides links to free samples, coupons, sales, giveaways, and sweepstakes on the Internet.  I also blog about ways to save money in ‘The Wicked Cheap Handbook’ and ‘The Wicked Cheap Mom’. I JUST STARTED doing my own giveaways and am super excited to be breaking into that blog ‘genre’.

How long have you been blogging?

I just started this blog in February 2010!

How did you get started?

When I find a ‘great deal’ I LOVE to tell people about it…thing is, most of my friends and family don’t have any “coupon love”. I started posting ‘great deals’ on my personal Facebook page and then created a group on Facebook.  One night I decided to buy a domain name and the rest is history!

What kinds of products do you feature on your blog?

For the most part, I will feature anything that is a ‘wicked cheap deal’.  If it’s free or on sale then I’ll write about it.

What was your favourite giveaway?

To be honest, I LOVE to review/giveaway things that are for ME and not the kids!  🙂  I just wrote up a review for a Brugo Mug…it is pretty cool and something I probably wouldn’t just go out and buy for myself.

Who does your blog appeal to?

According to my Facebook ‘liker’ stats, most of my fans are moms in their 20’s and 30’s.

What direction do you see your blog going in the future?

You know, I’m not really sure.  I know of some bloggers that have been featured on TV and in magazines…but I can’t imagine I’ll ever get that ‘big’…that’s crazy!  I hope that someday I can turn ‘The Wicked Cheap Handbook’ and ‘The Wicked Cheap Mom’ into eBooks!

What is the biggest challenge you have faced so far with your blog?

TIME!  With 4 kids…and a hubby…and a messy house…and shopping to do…I just can’t seem to fit it all in.  Some days I spend so much time blogging that nothing gets done around the house.  On other days I’ll take the kids out somewhere and then I don’t have time to blog.  I need to set up some sort of schedule…

What do you love about blogging?’

I love sharing deals (I really do!).  And I LOVE it when people thank me for sharing a great deal with them.

Do you have a blogging pet peeve?

YES!  Some bloggers are just in it for the money.  Now that I ‘know’ the ins and outs of advertising I have noticed that there are quite a few ladies out there who don’t post a deal unless they get some sort of commission out of it.

Do you have any advice for the readers entering your giveaway? newbie review bloggers?

For readers:  Just take a few minutes and ENTER!  I won 2 giveaways last month! For bloggers:  Make sure to review products that you want/need.  Don’t just review something to review something.

Tell me some of your favourite blogs that you read.

Cha-Ching on a Shoestring

I’ve been following these blogs for well over a year…these ladies taught me everything I know about freebie and money-making drug store deals.  Yellow Tennessee www.yellowtennessee.blogspot.com This blogger (Rachel) is super awesome! She took me under her wing and taught me how to become a review/giveaway blogger.  I am so grateful to her!!
