Blog Spotlight | Luxury Reading
Today I would like to welcome Vera from Luxury Reading. I had a chance to learn more about her blog and here’s what she had to say…
Please tell me about yourself.
I am a 26-year old graduate student (and full time worker), wife, blogger, and so on :). I live in Cleveland (and love it!) with my husband, our two cats and a dog.
Please tell me about your blog.
At Luxury Reading, we review books of all types and genres: from mainstream books to self-publishes ones, from fiction to non fiction, and from self help books to cookbooks. I say “we” because I have a sizable review team that reviews books for the site. While I review books as well, my main focus of late has become editing, maintaining the blog, corresponding with authors, planning events, etc. There’s just not enough time in the day for everything! Of course, we also have author interviews, guest posts and fabulous giveaways!
How long have you been blogging?
Since January 2009, so about a year and a half.
How did you get started?
I started Luxury Reading because I tried writing book reviews for another established blog, and they told me they just had too many reviews already. So I thought, why not? I’ll start my own book review blog and review the type of books that I consider interesting and worthwhile. It’s been a lot of hard work and long hour, but I am very proud about the end result.
What kinds of products do you feature on your blog?
As the title of the blog suggests, we focus on books. Every now and then I’ve reviewed other products, but 99% of the time we feature books. Now, giveaways are another story. I’ll do pretty much any giveaway since readers always love those!
What was your favourite giveaway?
I’d have to say the April 2010 Blogmania Giveaway. I gave away over 200 prizes and although coordination was quite a challenge, I think all the winners were pretty happy 🙂
Who does your blog appeal to?
Simple – anyone that loves to read. We review such a wide variety of books that everyone can find at least a few titles they’d enjoy.
What direction do you see your blog going in the future?
I love working directly with authors, so I hope to do more extensive coverage of authors that we love in the future. Of course, everyone wants more traffic, but I see that as something that comes with time. I love where Luxury Reading is now and hope that I can continue to attract visitors that are just as passionate about books as we are.
What is the biggest challenge you have faced so far with your blog?
Hmm, probably transferring to WordPress. It’s been the greatest thing, but the initial few days when I could not figure out where all my subscribers went were nerve racking. But, they’ve been found (!) and all is well now.
What do you love about blogging?
Hearing from readers and authors. Whenever I receive an e-mail from a reader saying how much they enjoyed a particular review, or from an author who’s so grateful for the exposure, it just makes my day.
Do you have a blogging pet peeve?
No. I’ve had nothing but positive experiences with blogging.
Do you have any advice for the readers entering your giveaway? newbie review bloggers?
For readers – extra entries do count. Most of the time winners are the ones who took advantage of the extra entries.
For newbie review bloggers – don’t expect to get a lot of free stuff to review from day 1. If you’re in it for the free stuff, you’ll get sick of the whole endeavor pretty quickly. Review your own products and build traffic first. Requests for reviews will come later.
Tell me some of your favourite blogs that you read.
Yours, of course! Also Bookin’ with Bingo, Studenomics, Misadventures in Baby Raising, ProBlogger, Passages to the Past and a ton of others I subscribe to!
