Blog Spotlight: “Deal”icious Mom

Dealicious Mom - The Sweetest Deals On and Off the Web!

Today I would like to welcome Sara from “Deal”icious Mom. I had a chance to learn more about her blog and here’s what she had to say:

Please tell me about yourself.

My name is Sara. I am a wife, mom of two young boys (1 and 4) who never sit down! During the school year I am a high school special education teacher in East Los Angeles and during the summer I am a stay at home mommy (love it!) Being a mom, teacher and a blogger are my passions!

Please tell me about your blog.

“Deal”icious Mom is the place to go to find the sweetest deals on and off the web from daily freebies and deals to money saving coupons and tips! I also throw in lots of giveaways and product reviews to sweeten up the deals too!

How long have you been blogging?

I started blogging in March 2008 so about 2 1/2 years.

How did you get started?

I started blogging because I needed a hobby. My husband always told me I needed to get a hobby and since I am a bit of a computer nerd and I love finding deals and hunting for freebies a deal blog was sort of an obvious hobby. I was obsessed with other “deal” blogs and I wanted to see if I could do it too.

What kinds of products do you feature on your blog?

I feature all sorts of family friendly products but I particularly like kids products like toys and DVDs. I love letting my children try out new toys and products that bring a smile to their face.

What was your favourite giveaway?

Ugh! That is a hard one. I love giving away anything from Little Tikes. I have given away a Cozy Coupe and a Spray and Rescue Fire Truck so those are fun! I also just gave away a $250 Marriott gift card and that was a huge hit!

Who does your blog appeal to?

Hopefully my blog appeals to everyone but I think it really appeals to moms with young kids since I am a mom of young kids. I try to have giveaways for all ages so I hope there is something for everyone. I also post a lot of deals and freebies so there is no one out there who can’t afford something free!

What direction do you see your blog going in the future?

In the future I see my blog going no where but up! I want to have bigger and better giveaways but on a more personal note I want my readers to learn a little more about me and my family. For a long time, I kept my site strictly business but now I am opening up a lot more and I hope my readers will enjoy that.

What is the biggest challenge you have faced so far with your blog?

I think for every blogger who is also a mom, time is a big issue! Also, finding a balance between family and your blog is crucial! I struggle with this constantly. Another struggle is figuring out what to include on your site and what to leave off… I still have not figured that one out yet!

What do you love about blogging?

I love blogging because it has opened up so many doors for my family. I also love it because I feel like it is a stress reliever for me. I can relax, type, and I feel so much better when I am done. Oh and I have made so many great friends through my blog! I can’t forget them!

Do you have a blogging pet peeve?

I have a hard time with judgmental people. I love opinions and everyone has a right to them but I just get bothered by people who feel like they have to press their opinions on you and if you do not accept their opinions as your own they get mad. I personally have lots of opinions and I will voice them but if people do not agree that is great, no problem! In the blogging community we all have a right to speak our minds and that is what I love about it!

Do you have any advice for the readers entering your giveaway? newbie review bloggers?

My advice for people entering my giveaways is simply to enter because your chances of winning a VERY high compared to most giveaways out there! Also, make sure to follow the rules and guidelines.

As for new review bloggers just be patient. Do not be discouraged if you get a lot of no’s or no replies to your pitches at first. Focus on making contacts and building your readership before you get discouraged. Reach out to friendly bloggers, join communities and NINGs and you will be surprised how many bloggers are willing to help!

Tell me some of your favourite blogs that you read.
