Blog Spotlight | Completely Eclipsed
Today I would like to welcome Melissa from Completely Eclipsed. I had a chance to learn more about her blog and here’s what she had to say…
Please tell me about yourself.
I’m a first time mom to my 1 year old daughter, Isabella. I also work full time as a 3rd grade teacher in New York City. I’m married to a wonderful man who makes me as equally happy as he does annoyed.
Please tell me about your blog.
My blog is all about the warts-and-all version of motherhood. Being a mom is difficult and I write to let other mom’s know that what they’re feeling is normal. Being a mom isn’t about vomiting glitter and rainbows, sometimes it’s down and dirty.
How long have you been blogging?
I’ve been blogging for a while, maybe a year and a half, but it wasn’t until my daughter was born about a year ago that I started putting a lot of time and energy into it.
How did you get started?
I frequented a mom message board and everyone else had one so I figured why not jump on the bandwagon. How’s that for originality?
What kinds of products do you feature on your blog?
I try to feature products that I feel my readers will find useful. Things that will help their lives in any way. Like an adorable dress or cookware or probiotics that will do wonders for thickening their hair. You know..the important stuff.
What was your favourite giveaway?
I love the Kikou from www.calmthecrazy.com. Makes my life so much easier and saves me in dry cleaning bills.
Who does your blog appeal to?
I would assume that it appeals to working mom’s mostly and the challenges that we face in regards to guilt of not being home and finding a balance. Although a lot of SAHM’s do read and comment regularly.
What direction do you see your blog going in the future?
Oh to be Dooce! But I would hope that it would stay how it is now. Honest, balls to the ground, and just vulgar enough to make you blush but not too vulgar that you can’t read it at work.
What is the biggest challenge you have faced so far with your blog?
Finding the time to cultivate it. It’s been difficult to manage my everyday life plus write original, interesting posts, promote my blog on twitter etc, and comment on people’s blogs that I love. Sometimes my blog is quite the time suck.
What do you love about blogging?
I love that I can speak freely. In my real life I’m so reserved, but on my blog I let it all hang out. I love that I get to be so uninhibited.
Do you have a blogging pet peeve?
I have two actually. I hate when I loyally read and comment on someone’s blog, like every single post, and they never pay me a visit back. Rude. And I hate it when people comment and say “Great post. Visit me back.” I know you didn’t read it and you just want to increase your own traffic. Bad commenting annoys me.
Do you have any advice for the readers entering your giveaway? newbie review bloggers?
Be choosy. Don’t jump at every review/giveaway. Try and choose things that you think your readers will like. Don’t be afraid to say no.
Tell me some of your favourite blogs that you read.
Other than you? I love Sasstastic (www.sasstastic.com), I love The Stroller Ballet (www.thestrollerballet.com). There’s just so many it’s difficult to choose! There are some amazing writers out there. ÂMy favorite blogs are generally mommy bloggers because I feel I can relate to them the most.
How can people find you?
