Book Review | Top 5 Questions to Ask Your Doctor
Author: Jim Sutton, RPA-C and Sagar Nigwekar, MD
The subtitle on this book is “Important questions your doctor wants you to ask about your medical condition.” Well, I hope he’s already covered all the bases when he informed you of his diagnosis… Don’t get me wrong, this is a good book and possibly an important reference to take with you when you go to the doctor. It starts with how to use the book and has tips for talking to your doctor. It covers many minor and major conditions that you might encounter in your lifetime. Each condition has a short description of it and in some cases, the symptoms as well.
For example, under Asthma it says: “Asthma is a common medical condition caused by inflammation of the airways. People with asthma have difficulty breathing, cough, wheezing or chest tightness.” It talks about triggers and common treatments. The questions include: Can you show me how to use my inhaler correctly? How often should I get pulmonary function tests to monitor my asthma? and What are the possible triggers of my asthma and how can I avoid them? Each condition also has several other additional questions that you might want to ask your doctor. From Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm to Warts, this book covers just about everything. I might just tuck it into my purse before my next appointment and ask a couple of questions myself.
