Title: Beauty Marks

Author: Melissa Groeling

My Review:

This is an incredibly well-written book that I couldn’t put down (literally, I read it in less than a day!). Anne “Bumps” Martin is the bartender at Trok’s, a nightclub that has plenty of loud music and nightly fights in the mosh pit. Disfigured as a girl and cruelly rejected by one who’s love should have been unconditional, Bumps feels normal at Trok’s and wants to buy it from the owner. The lead singer of a band at the club, Evan is bald-headed, tattooed and very handsome. Bumps can’t stand that she’s attracted to him and he feels the same, especially when she has to “rescue” him from a drunken client in the back alley after closing. Then something happens to make her world collapse and she has to find a way to find herself again. And maybe Evan will help heal some of the pain.

Melissa Groeling is definitely a name you should watch for. She writes with great feeling and this story grabs you from the first chapter. She captures the emotional trauma that comes from childhood abuse and physical disfigurement. I could almost picture these people and places in my mind. This is one story that could easily be translated into a movie and I for one would be standing in line to see it. I hope that I see more from her in the future.

*I received a copy of this book to review but I was not financially compensated in any way. The opinions expressed are my own and are based on my observations while reading this novel.*
