Blog Spotlight: Cookies & Clogs

I am running a feature spotlighting other Review & Giveaway Blogs. If you have one and would like to be featured, please email me at [email protected]

Today I would like to welcome TerriAnn from Cookies & Clogs. I had a chance to learn more about her blog and here’s what she had to say…

Please tell me about yourself.

I’m 31 years old and a stay-at-home mom of one daughter. I have been homeschooling her for 4 years. I’m married to my best friend and we just celebrated our 10th anniversary this year. I was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area but lived in the Netherlands for 4 years, where my husband is originally from.

Please tell me about your blog.

I post deals and reviews that I think other mothers would be interested in. I also try to cater to a local audience by including reviews on things to do and places to eat in the area.

How long have you been blogging?

2 months as of July 7, 2010.

How did you get started?

My friends would always ask me where I find all these good deals. With that in mind I decided to start blogging. My husband helped set up my domain and server but I had to learn everything else from scratch. To design my site, I had to learn about css, WordPress, plug-ins, php, categories, themes, etc. Let’s just say that I have learned a lot in the past couple months.

What kinds of products do you feature on your blog?

Basically anything our family can use and enjoy. That includes toys, family hygiene, housewares, games, electronics, educational items and more. I figure if we really like something, other families will as well.

What was your favourite giveaway?

My favorite giveaway was for the gift baskets I received from the Gallo Salame event in San Francisco. The required entry was to comment on how the reader eats salami. I had so much fun reading those comments – I had no idea people loved salami so much and eat it in so many different ways.

Who does your blog appeal to?

The main audience I target is that of parents, specifically mothers. Yet, anyone looking for deals can benefit from the information I feature.

What direction do you see your blog going in the future?

I still plan on posting deals and reviews but I would really like my blog to be a place that mothers can go to learn new things and relate to shared experiences.

What is the biggest challenge you have faced so far with your blog?

Myself. There are so many great blogs out there that I constantly struggle with confidence in what I can personally add and in finding my voice in what I write.

What do you love about blogging?

It allows me to have a creative outlet in which I feel like I’m intelligent and capable. Being a stay-at-home mother is tough. Even though you know mentally that what you do in the home is valuable, somehow that absence of a paycheck can make you doubt your contribution to the family. I have also been to experience many new things and try different products that my family would otherwise not be able to do or afford.

Do you have a blogging pet peeve?

Busy blogs with too many advertisements. There are lot of blogs that literally hurt my eyes with bright colors and stuff all over the place.

Do you have any advice for the readers entering your giveaway? newbie review bloggers?

If readers continue to support Cookies & Clogs and tell others about it, I’ll be able to offer more and better giveaways in the future. To newbie bloggers, just stick with it and don’t get overwhelmed or too anxious to explode in popularity overnight. I received some good advice myself and that is ‘have fun with it’. If you plan on monetizing your blog, make that a second priority. First write for yourself and just go with the flow.

Tell me some of your favourite blogs that you read.
