Book Review | Donner the Western Dragon
Author: Suzanne Davis Marion
Dragons must be “hot” right now~ the past couple books I have reviewed have had dragons in them… but this book is meant for a younger crowd.
Donner is a young dragon who lives with his Mom, Dad and siblings. They are a wonderful family who are all brave, strong and loving. They have a very happy life.
Donner’s best friend is Una the unicorn. Unicorns are peaceful and graceful creatures where dragons are supposed to be fierce, fire breathing creatures. Donner and Una’s families thought their friendship was unusual at best.
The young dragons teased Donner because he liked to prance in the fields with Una and admire the beauty all around him. They said “What kind of dragon are you?”
One day the dragons were planning a trip to the icy mountains to have an adventure, but Donner chose not to go. Unexpectedly disaster strikes and the dragons find themselves trapped inside the mountain.
Donner saves the day and becomes everyone’s hero of course!
I really liked this story. It teaches children how important it is to accept othersin spite of their differences, likes and dislikes and how if someone’s different it’s ok. It’s our differences that make us all special.
The book is written in short chapters and has beautifully drawn illustrations. I know children will love to read this story and have it read to them again and again…
*I received a copy of this book to review but I was not financially compensated in any way. The opinions expressed are my own and are based on my observations while reading this novel.*
