Title: A SPY AT HOME

Author: Joseph M. Rinaldo

My Review:

When I first started reading this book I was puzzled as to whether it was a work of fiction or non-fiction. I was sure it was fiction {and it is}, but it reads like it is a true story. I’m not exactly sure how to review it without giving too much away, but here it goes.

Basically the novel is about a CIA Agent who wants to retire so he can get reconnected with his family~ his wife, Louisa and son, Noah~ and get off this roller coaster of a ride he calls a job. His son Noah is a special needs child with Down Syndrome, whom they brought into their lives in a truly unexpected way… you’ll have to read the book to find out how.

Louisa and Garrison “come into” some money in a not so legal way and they decide they are going to move far away to Martinique with Noah and start a brand new life together. Louisa reluctantly gives up her 25 year nursing home job that she loves and so the process beings.

Many things happen that I did not see coming, and life for them seems ok. They have found a way to “give back” to society and live a happy life. Noah gets sick, Garrison gets involved with the CIA again- so many things happen to their family.

A little over halfway through the book,  tragedy strikes and Garrison is forced to make some very tough decisions and I think to come to terms with his own mortality and the mortality of those around him. He faces so many “giants” in their lives that I am not sure how he holds it together.

I would not call this a “feel good” book, but I would say it is a great read. The twists and turns it takes are unexpected and intriguing and will keep you wondering how it will all come to an end right until the last page.

*I received a copy of this book to review but I was not financially compensated in any way. The opinions expressed are my own and are based on my observations while reading this novel.*
