Today I would like to welcome Danielle from By Hand Giveaways. I had a chance to learn more about her blog and here’s what she had to say…

Please tell me about yourself.

I am a college student who loves the creative side of life! I have always been seen doing or working on some kind of creative project ever since I was little; my mom always tells this story from back when I was 3 — I used to get up in the morning and watch the art programs that used to play on T.V. One day I was watching and I brought to my sleeping mom a basket I made all by myself. She said it was cut, there was glue, and it was woven together…and I was only 3. She always tells me that she wishes she had kept it. Well this passion for art and crafty things has been with me my entire life

Please tell me about your blog.

By Hand Giveyaways is a blog that offers readers a place to find handmade giveaways from around the net daily (as well as supply and vintage giveaways from Etsy and Artfire sellers). It is a great free resource both for those who love entering giveaways and those who host giveaways and want free exposure. BHG also hosts giveaways and features on Fridays for free, as well as showcasing sweet handmade finds in the Wednesday Window Showcases.

How long have you been blogging?

I have been blogging about one thing or another ever since I was in junior high. Back then I was using another site (can’t remember the name anymore) and it had nothing to do with anything but life itself and the love of being anonymous.

How did you get started?

I started blogging about handmade after I opened my first Etsy shop. It started as LoveEtsyFeedback (maybe a few may remember). When I opened my current shop (Tagsandbuttons.etsy.com) I was still running LEF on the side. I shut down both for a little while and came back to both Etsy and blogging. When I made it back into blogging I changed LEF to Praisehandmade, but then took over HMgiveaways and basically gutted the blog and started from scratch. The end result is what you see now: By Hand Giveaways. A mix of HMgiveaways and Praisehandmade.

What kinds of products do you feature on your blog?

This blog highlights the handmade community and offers exposure for giveaways.

What was your favourite giveaway?

This is a hard question, my favorite type to enter is probably jewelry. I love trying to win earrings. I have hosted many giveaways from LEF on over the BHG so I don’t know if I could pick a favorite that I personally promoted. I have also done many giveaways for my own shop and again I wouldn’t be able to pick any single favorite moment.

Who does your blog appeal to?

Anyone who loves to enter giveaways loves handmade and wants to help support handmade creators.

What direction do you see your blog going in the future?

By Hand Giveaways is already in the direction that I want it to go. In the future I am simply striving for more readers and more giveaways to share. Each day I work on spreading the word about By Hand Giveaways.

What is the biggest challenge you have faced so far with your blog?

The biggest challenge actually came when I switched HMgiveaways over to By Hand Giveaways. There was a lot of confusion and it took many hours over many days to get everything switched to the best of my ability. It left some readers lost, and the original .com went down at the same time which didn’t help. Once everything was moved over, the next biggest challenge has simply been promotion: trying to find time to promote BHG just as much as my shop.

What do you love about blogging?

I just love sharing giveaways with people and I love finding shops to feature. Putting together the Wednesday Windows are always fun because I get to look through amazing handmade products.

Do you have a blogging pet peeve?

Nothing I could think of except right now my tiny template isn’t working right in blogger. 🙂

Do you have any advice for the readers entering your giveaway? newbie review bloggers?

I have three tips! Tip one: for anyone who wants to enter handmade giveaways, don’t not enter just because it looks like there’s too many entries already because there is no such thing! Whether a giveaway has 10 entries or 500, someone has to win and you’ll have the same chance as everyone else. Tip two: make sure you follow the directions on whatever giveaway you are entering or else your entries could get discarded! And the main tip: do more than one entry. If you can enter the giveaway multiple times, utilize at least one other method because if you enter two times instead of one you just increased your chances to win.

Tell me some of your favorite blogs that you read.
