Mossy Bayou Foods Review
I have always been the first one to try new foods and will usually taste something at least once to see if I like it. I love to experiment with my cooking and am always picking up different sorts of ingredients when out shopping. I like my food with lots of flavour (no bland food for me!) and seasonings and I do enjoy a bit of spice too. Maybe not too hot, but just enough so you can taste it. I recently tried a product from Mossy Bayou Foodsand fell in love with this Louisiana specialty food company! I can honestly say I have never tried Louisiana style anything, but they have made me a believer. I am hooked!
Mossy Bayou Foods sent me a bottle of their award-winning Louisiana Swamp Scum Hot Sauce to try out. It was developed from an old Cajun recipe and has a smoky flavour and a dark swamp green colour. It took first place in a national competition in 2002 by Chile Pepper Magazine and took second place in a “blind” people’s choice competition at a Texas Food Expo. I was really looking forward to trying such a highly acclaimed sauce to see what the hype was all about.
I decided to try it out on a roast I was making in my crockpot. I lathered my roast up with some of the sauce and let it sit for a good 6 hours and I reapplied the marinade every hour or so. When it was cooking, it smelled delicious! I couldn’t wait till it was done and John was salivating too. I sliced up the roast and brought the bottle of Swamp Scum Hot Sauce to the table. The roast tasted divine! It had a nice kick to it with just the right amount of heat. I ended up pouring a little bit of the hot sauce on my plate and dipping my roast into it. It was just that good! Its a taste unlike anything I have tried before, but now one that I will never forget. The colour takes some getting used to since it is dark green. I plan to try it out some pork roasts I have in the freezer too. I bet it will be just as good. I love beef so I will use it again and again on my roasts. This is definitely one you will to try for yourself. It’s yummy!
You can buy the Louisiana Swamp Scum Hot Sauce for $5 on the Mossy Bayou Foods website.
