Blog Spotlight | Family Sanity Reviews
I am running a feature spotlighting other Review & Giveaway Blogs. If you have one and would like to be featured, please email me at [email protected] (it’s free!).
Today I would like to welcome Dina and Michele from Family Sanity Reviews. I had a chance to learn more about their blog and here’s what they had to say…
Please tell me about yourself.
After 15 years in telecommunications I left to pursue a certificate in massage therapy and yoga instruction. As part of my training I delved deeply into herbalism, aromatherapy, and most recently Shell Essences (more on that later). When I was pregnant I became an expert in the safe use of herbs and essential oils for pregnant women and children. I also work with dogs and plan to get my Canine Massage certificate this year; animals are such great clients to work with; their energy is just so accepting of the work you are trying to do with them.
I love being with my family and friends, going to the beach (where I get to see my aunt), knitting, writing, and above all belly dancing. This is my connection my spirit, makes me realize I’m a sensual woman when I sometimes forget that, and keeps me in shape.
I am a big believer in nurturing yourself in any creative outlet you can find, and I have taught seminars on how to find time to do just that. Unlike some of the teachings I have studied I believe that it is OK to seek healthy pleasures….great food, great wine, great entertainment and conversation.
I have been working from home for the last 14 years selling advertising for a local parenting publication in New Jersey. Before that I was in Corporate America for many years.
I was never happy being away from my son and my passion was always to work from home so I can be with him and have another baby. My wish came true when I was laid off from my office job. During unemployment I was lucky enough to find my current sales job.
However, the economy has hit hard the past 2 years and advertising print sales are down. The internet is where it’s at. I have also made extra money during the years selling on eBay but still felt that I wasn’t living my passion.
I love to read, listen to music, spend time with family, friends and 3 kitty cats, go to the beach, dance, watch TV and movies and spend time on the internet.
Please tell me about your blog.
Michele and I have been brainstorming for years on how to blend my knowledge of natural health and wellness and her knowledge of marketing and sales and Family Sanity Reviews was born on March 15th. We have two primary goals 1.) To educate women on how to create a harmonious family (physically, mentally, and spiritually). 2.) To promote companies both small and large that meet this goal. In particular other women in business. All products and companies we review have been used in our personal lives or my professional practice.
How long have you been blogging?
FSR was launched on March 15th, prior to that I have had a personal blog for over 2 years.
How did you get started?
I have always loved educating women(moms) on natural health and sanity, and I have always been a writer so starting a blog was a natural progression to educate more women on their choices.
What kinds of products do you feature on your blog?
We feature anything that brings about health and harmony, and in some cases indulgences. We do a lot of work with herbs, essential oils, bath and body, dog health, relaxation techniques and things of beauty. We do require that anything you put in your mouth (except maybe the wine but that’s another story) or on your body is organic and comes from an eco-friendly company.
What was your favourite giveaway?
We are new so we have only had a few, but it was the Herbal Relaxation Kit that contained bath herbs, two calming essential oils, and a calming herbal tincture.
Who does your blog appeal to?
Mothers and women interested in learning about natural products for the whole family, I specialize in women’s health, kids, and dogs. Also, anyone interested in learning about products designed to relax you and to feed your creativity.
What direction do you see your blog going in the future?
I am not going to lie and say we do not have a financial aspect to the blog. The education I provide on the blog comes from years of study and a lot of money spent to get that education. We do affiliate with companies that meet our standards and that have been tested by us, we do hope our readers become customers of these companies. We do not affiliate with just anyone, only those companies that have helped change our lives. We will always do unpaid reviews but would like to start doing some paid reviews as well. I also would like to see the blog go outside of just the mom blog niche and become a place where all people come to learn about alternatives to traditional medicine.
What is the biggest challenge you have faced so far with your blog?
I think like most people, its getting followers, but not just followers in numbers, followers that really read and get something out of the blog. Also, for me it is thinking of topics that will keep readers engaged.
What do you love about blogging?
The ability to share knowledge and hopefully teach my readers something they did not know before.
Do you have a blogging pet peeve?
I can’t think of one right now.
Do you have any advice for the readers entering your giveaway? newbie review bloggers?
I don’t know about advice but I would ask that people read our articles as well as enter the giveaways. For newbies I would say have more on your blog than just reviews and blog hops. Have some articles and personal posts that allow the readers to get to know “you”.
Tell me some of your favourite blogs that you read.
Well Stacie we would be remiss if you were not the first on the list! I also love the Blogess. And here are a few others.
How can people find you?
