Blog Spotlight | Emmy’s Boos and Rawrs

I am running a feature spotlighting other Review &  Giveaway Blogs. If you have one and would like to be featured, please email me at [email protected]

Today I would like to welcome Emily from Emmys Boos and Rawrs. I had a chance to learn more about her blog and here’s what she had to say…

Please tell me about yourself.

I’m an 18 year old college student from Michigan. I come from a very large family, and have 18 nieces and nephews, and 2 on the way! I am majoring in Early Childhood Development. I have an apartment with my boyfriend of over 2.5 years, and my blog is about our lives and the products we test out.

Please tell me about your blog.

My blog is named after my Etsy shop. However, soon after I made my blog I discovered blog reviews and giveaways, and decided I wanted to get into that, so I kept the same blog it just changed directions. It hasn’t completely changed though becuase when I first got started I featured a lot of etsy shops, and I still love to work with etsy shops and other stores that make handmade products.

How long have you been blogging?

I created my blog in August, and have been doing reviews since December. However, I love to talk, and as early as twelve or thirteen years old I had “open diary” accounts, which is a site for online journals. I also have had live journals, xanga’s, etc, at various times in between then and now. I just love to talk.

How did you get started?

I started out by trying to promote my etsy shop but it wasn’t really going anywhere anyway. hehe. Then for a few months I entered giveaways like it was my job, and would post about other peoples giveaways to get entries into them, as well as to help promote them and to keep my followers following.

What kinds of products do you feature on your blog?

A large variety of things really. Lately I’ve been working with etsy shop owners a lot which is fun. In the past I’ve had a lot of baby items because I have a nephew due in less than 2.5 weeks now, and another niece or nephew due in August, so I’ve been really into baby stuff, but I like to review anything that I or my boyfriend can use or anything that the little kids in my life can use.

What was your favourite giveaway? From my blog?

I love having giveaways with multiple winners. I feel sad when I get a winning number from and I scroll through the comments to find the correct number, and have to see all the other entries that people left that don’t get to win. So it’s always really cool to have multiple winners.

That I entered? My biggest or best win was a pair of glasses from eye buy direct for my boyfriend, on the born2impress blog.

Who does your blog appeal to?

I think it could potentially appeal to a large variety of people, because I don’t limit my blog to one made theme or idea, it’s about a huge variety of things in my life, so I think almost anyone could connect with at least some of what my blog is about.

What direction do you see your blog going in the future?

Greatly because of other blogs that I follow, I find myself growing more conscious of our planet and how we can be more eco friendly and green. I can see my blog going somewhat in that direction because I have been trying to find a balance between being as eco-friendly as possible while still being a frugal person and staying on a budget. I can also see my blog taking on a frugal theme too because, although I hate to admit it, my dad has really rubbed off on me and I am extremely frugal for being a young woman. I can only imagine how “cheap” I will be by the time I am my dad’s age! haha.

What is the biggest challenge you have faced so far with your blog?

Hearing back from companies, I suppose. I wish that I had changed my blog’s name before really getting going because I feel like I’m not taken seriously enough because of my blogs title and my age. Hopefully soon companies will start to look at my blog for what is there, and not the title, and won’t squirm away when they see that I am 18. I’m young and my blogs title is silly, but I do quality reviews for companies and hopefully soon they will see that.

What do you love about blogging?

I love to talk! I also have a deep interest in people as a whole. I love trying to understand everyone I meet and I love being able to peek into other peoples worlds. (Not in a peeping tom kinda way though, hehe). I think my interest of people has a lot to do with my interest in psychology, and I love how a persons blog is always their view of their life. Even with close friends, we rarely get to see how they view things, we just see how they act and unless they start talking about their feelings, we don’t get a grasp of their perspective. Where as blogs are all about that one persons perspective and it’s just endlessly interesting to me how everyone views things differently.

Do you have a blogging pet peeve?

It bothers me when I leave a comment on someones blog, especially when it’s a personal post, and they never acknowledge it. I know that bloggers get a lot of emails, and are busy. I am too. However, when I make a personal post I always make sure to double check for personal comments that are left, and take the time to respond to the person on their blog or at the very least I reply to all the comments left by leaving a comment to everyone in general at the end of the comments on tha tpage. Sometimes I put a lot of time and thought into leaving someone a comment, or advice if they are asking for it, or whatever the case may be, and I don’t know it just bothers me that most people never respond. It makes me a lot less likely to comment on other peoples blogs which is sad because I prefer blogs, both my own and other peoples, to be a community not just a one way street.

Do you have any advice for the readers entering your giveaway? newbie review bloggers?

My only advice to those entering my giveaways is take advantage of how many entries I allow. I have 3-4 people who have won on my blog more times than I can count, even though I’ve only been doing reviews for 3 months or so. However, those people really take advantage of the entries I allow. I always list the same ways to enter, so if you do them once (like follow my blog, grab my button, add me on twitter, fan me on facebook, etc) that’s a lot of entries, and you’ll get to use the same entries for each giveaway.

For newbie reviewers – Don’t be afraid to ask questions of other bloggers. It took me a long time to find someone who would respond to me and help me, but it was definitely worth it in the end! Feel free to contact me if you have any questions I could help answer for you.

Tell me some of your favourite blogs that you read.
