Book Review | Love in Mid Air by Kim Wright
Author: Kim Wright
Format: HARDCOVER BOOK
Publish Date: 3/29/2010
About the Book:
A chance encounter with a stranger on an airplane sends Elyse Bearden into an emotional tailspin. Suddenly Elyse is willing to risk everything: her safe but stale marriage, her seemingly perfect life in an affluent Southern suburb, and her position in the community. She finds herself cutting through all the instincts that say “no” and instead lets “yes” happen. As Elyse embarks on a risky affair, her longtime friend Kelly and the other women in their book club begin to question their own decisions about love, sex, marriage, and freedom.
I don’t even know where to begin with my review or if I am even able to adequately convey just how wonderful this book is. Kim Wright is a fantastic author!!!
The story is told from the point of view of Elyse Bearden, a married woman that is almost 40 who seems to have it all. However, she is very unhappy and the book follows her life as she discovers herself and what she truly wants from her. I could very much relate to her character since I am going through my own divorce at the moment. I understand how much work marriage is and and many of the feelings she was having. I don’t judge her for having an affair. In fact, this made her more human and real and I learned that people who seem to have everything going on the outside can be suffering silently on the inside. The point being that you should not assume or “judge a book by its cover”.
I enjoyed escaping into Elyse’s life and meeting her friends, family and lover and living vicariously through her character. This is an amazing author and I could see this being a book that you study in English courses with its themes and symbolism. Her writing style is flawless and reading is effortless. This is not a book you will struggle to get through. I zipped right through it and was wanting more. In fact, it would be great for a Book Club to discuss since Elyse is actually in a Book Club in the novel!
I can’t wait to read more of Kim Wright’s books. This one is amazing and well worth reading!
